i feel bad for the second trumpet soloist, i used to always beat myself up for messing up but it only matters to the people that know jazz, knowing he took that risk to even wanna solo is an achievement of itself, props to him for that risk, i respect it

Bro hit the "I'm Lovin' it" lick at 2:37, and the tenor had the same reaction that I did. I guess hitting funny licks are a thing in all high school jazz bands, because it definitely happens in mine a lot too.

That is some VERY clean and tight playing. If you laid it up against professionals, I'm not sure you would be able tell which was which.

2023; I just found this and all of those babies featured and not featured were on top of their game in 2014. I hope they all went forward with great success in their musical careers. The Maestro did an excellent job and they listened in their hearts and expressed it with excellence. BRAVO!!

I love how the band cheers the soloists on. When my band does that to me when I solo it's awesome and helps build the energy of my solo.

type of thing you nail while practicing and in every rehearsal and on the day it just doesn't happen because the god's of music are bastards.

Damn I hope the last trumpet soloist did not beat himself up too hard after that performance. I know from experience how awful it feels at the moment and after to not perform at your best during high pressure situations like competitions.

I didn’t even know he messed up, what did he do wrong
@goldenpooper4326 Жыл бұрын
@Hugh Jaynis if I could guess, just think he was way too tense resulting in the (imo) pinched tone that he has and the shortened notes. And the last 5/6 measures he must have gotten flustered or something and missed his cue and then tried to eek out that last note but gave up.

Actually, this song was written by Fletcher Henderson. A very significant composer, pianist, and arranger and one of those who created the structure of swing music.

Jack Swigget that is! He did it! He said it all in his solo! He, like Nostradamus, predicted the future! And do you believe that high school band can reach that high level of professionalism? They can perform at Carnegie Hall, no less! Funeral March by Chopin at the end of the piece - that says it all! Duke Ellington also finished with funeral march his original piece - genius!

I saw this girl in the trumpet section and I just had to listen. And she was amazing like everyone else. We have many good bands in Norway but never heard someone swing like this before. This is swing on steroid taken to a new level. Amazing how they swing and back it up with sound and dynamic. Its like listen to contemporary music going swing and sound and fun. This teacher know what he is doing and they are lucky to have him around.
