The hook & loop tape will not adhere well to wood. Total blackout is easier to achieve attaching to the metal frame.

Could these be installed on the wooden trim around the window as opposed to directly on the window themselves? Would that provide the same blackout effect? Would make opening windows easier during the day as well as making measurements easier.

Some customer buy them just for that purpose. The white side always face the exterior to reflect heat energy. There is still light coming through from above and the sides. I have a toddler who gets very active even if there is a tiny bit of light. This is very helpful for parents!

Hi, does the velcro tape take the paint off when u remove? I'm a renter, but this seems like a tight fit u can do

If the paint is currently in good shape; not peeling or damaged, the tape will remove easily without damage. If it feels tacky after removing clean with 90% rubbing alcohol and all will be new again. I hope this helps.

If you would like to open the window to let in air, the velcro on the window will interfere so if you plan to let in air often, measure and install your Blackout EZ Window Cover along the glass so you can slide your window open without removing the window covers or vlecro.

@@raggar101 They were exactly right. What was important was to not rush; follow the instructions carefully to the letter. You have to measure the arc segments separately from the straight parts. It's tricky, but the company has laid out the process nicely. Before sending in your order, you may want to walk a 2nd person through the instructions and measurements you get, just to triple check. The white exterior reflects a lot of light and heat. It's a vinyl material which warms up... vs. an insulating material. It's thin and fairly flexible. And while the vinyl is white, I've found that it is completely opaque to daylight-- total black-out in my camper. I got this for every window and even the glass inset in the door. I didn't order to cover the translucent roof vent covers. With all the shades up, I was able to find all of the gaps which leaked light, and with foam tape block those out as well (I have a custom built vehicle with a lot of 'character').
