When you enter the baptistry from the ambulatory, there is a statue of a noble woman high up on the left wall. Is that Elizabeth I?

Lovely thoughtful performance. In this recording, however, I'm not crazy about the registration. I know what the score says, but on many instruments the upper work just screams and there isn't enough fundamental pitch to support it unless you add some more 8-foot pitches. I do like the solo stop here, it works very well!

Perhaps it will be completed, perhaps not. One must ask the question is this how Jesus would have us spend our time, money and resources, when so many suffer deprivation and homelessness. Do we build these structures to the glory of God or the inflate our own egos?

After all that, which was interesting, surely, not one syllable about the famous Skinner pipe organ - or any of the other organs which have graced this place with divine music. You should complete your story.

I was at the service this morning. The sermon focused on succour, healing, comfort, and service as elements of Christ's ministry. It concluded with a contemporary example of how we may give succour and comfort without knowing it. The pastor related the story of a white woman, Nancy, living in South Africa, an activist, married to a civil rights attorney. This white woman employed a black woman to clean her house. She noticed that her employee would sometimes pause to gaze out the window with its view of Robben Island, the famous prison island. Many years after the woman had left Nancy's employment she heard a knock on the door. A black man was visiting, asking to see the view of the island. When he saw it he wept, and he thanked Nancy for employing his wife, allowing her the comfort of looking on the island where he was imprisoned. This is the example of Christ-like succour and service that the pastor wanted to hold up to the congregation, a white woman allowing a black employee to look out through the window of the house. This kind of "ministry" is indeed far too interested in congratulating the comfortable for cost-free, risk-free noblesse oblige to hold my interest or respect. No where did the pastor consider or ask us to consider what the value of that "succour" might be in the context of what the descendants of white colonizers might owe to the indigenous people of South Africa. Nowhere did the pastor consider what the value of such an act of "service" might be in the context of a world where people are making real, extraordinary sacrifices every day for justice and peace. I won't be going back.
