I brought some strawberrys from that market in a punnet a few years ago, to eat on the move. They were mostly rotten, and they had hidden the rotten ones by putting them upside down, crafty...........

I travel from outside the area to Birmingham regularly : and all 3 markets there, have gone down hill in the last 10 years. In that particular building, there are a lot of empty unit's. There was a nut stall, that sold every type of nuts, and l would buy a handful to nibble as l walked around, that stall has now closed. I think Birmingham in general had more character and charm in the 70s.

thats a bummer! i am a brummy living abroad, and i´m going to Brum very soon, and was planning on visiting that nut stall!! well i hope the fish is ok and affordable!! i´m after some nice sardines!!
@poshgentleman559
@poshgentleman559 4 ай бұрын
@chiscoughlan5221 Yes, that nut stall was great, they had piles of all sorts of nuts, both salted, raw, and with dried fruit mixed in etc, very sad that its gone, l have never seen such a stall like that, that specialised in nuts. The last time l went in that building, the fish stalls seemed to be there still, but the place smelled of rotting fish: l,m not sure if someone forgot to throw the bin out. It was heaving in there 10 years ago, but loads of stalls are all shuttered up now, with a trickle of customers walking about. I liked Birmingham in the 1970s, the old bullring and palisades centre seemed to have more character. Also today, there seems to be beggars everywhere shaking cups. Today, something is lacking compared to yesteryear, and l,m saying that as an outsider: so goodness knows what brummies think of all the changes.

is it safe to hang around at night in Harbourne area?
@walkfree22422
@walkfree22422 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching my video, It is relatively safe at night from Monday-Saturday however you need to be careful. It's been almost 2 years since I'm residing here, and only once have I seen a phone snatched by a thief on a Sunday around 7:30pm. Sundays after 3pm are mostly quiet, the rest of the week is pretty much safe, but I personally avoid going out after 10/11pm. There are some bunch of homeless people near Sainsbury and around High Street you'll definitely identify those, but just be careful with them. And the residential people are family oriented, quiet and will mind their own business. In terms of shopping and food: the High Street has Rudy's Pizza, M&S Foods, Boots, Superdrug, Waitrose, Iceland, Sainsbury, Home Bargain, Pizza Express, Pizza/Kebab/Chinese takeaways, and a decent selection of restaurants. Also, we had a Harborne Carnival last Sunday which was really nice. Connectivity wise: If you take BUS no.23/24 it takes 10-12mins to reach broad street, and 20 - 25mins to reach New Street. If go via cab/personal car it takes hardly 12 mins to reach New Street. In the rush/peak hours. it might take longer. Thanks again and to support my channel, please subscribe to my channel. I hope this helps. 😁
