Well I'll be dawged.........I never knew Blake covered this tune. I've been performing this song within 3 days of it's studio album release ( 1990/91 ? ) both singing & playing the proper version ( open E tuning ) all over east/central Florida, and other than myself, I've gotta say this is the best cover version I've found yet. Of course Blake has help here with 2 guitars and a bass, but still, they did a good job. When I perform this song all by myself, I literally whistle the keyboard & bass lines, and it absolutely kills. Countless people over the years can attest to that. Literally every time I've performed this song, at least several people approach me afterwards to tell me I did the best version they every heard.......or felt. Whenever I performed as a solo acoustic act, this was and still is one of my all-time favorite songs to perform to audiences, and likewise, it's always been a crowd favorite. Not only is the song/tune beautiful, but I believe most people can directly relate to the lyrics. I'm now 62 yrs old, and still making music & singing, although that wicked covid crap/agenda has literally shut down over 90% of the local venues to perform in. I really need to hire someone to video me performing songs with quality audio, doing live, one-off takes with NO overdubs......and post to youtube, for prosperity. Show the world this old Soul still has what it takes, because I will always cherish doing great performances for people. ( Too bad youtube didn't exist back when I was gigging all over the place. )
