Many thanks for another excellent well explained and demonstrated comprehensive tutorial Mark . It built on that which I knew about this tool and significantly it reminded me to draw a box around manual focus target ….something I had forgotten . The lens blur tool has saved me a ton of money in so much as I don’t have the lens(s) to achieve the effect 😂. I found that by double clicking on the box that is dragged left right , narrowed or widened , it resets . In adjusting the blur on the ferry mast I yanked the amount and flow to 100pct and the feather to zero . Incorporating other editing techniques is always a great reminder of the capabilities of the tools .

Thank you for this YT Mark ..it clearly explains and demonstrates and in my case working along with the provided reinforces that my existing knowledge of these techniques is good . I had already installed the presets from your previous tutorial when you provide them . When I use a preset I click the ‘mask ‘ icon first to see the mask creation when I go to the preset . I think people will enjoy a lens blur tutorial .. when I, sure you will cover off brush adjustments .

This is great! thanks for sharing. I have a question, if I have 2 images selected and adjusted, one with ISO 800 and the other with ISO 6400, can I use the preset on an image with ISO 1600 or 12800, automatically adjusting to those ISO levels?
@MarkAHunter2 ай бұрын
Once you have created the preset (in your comment that would be by using two images one at ISO 800 and one at 6400) you can apply it to any other image. However... For images above the upper range (in your example that might be the one at ISO 12900) the adaptive change will stop at the upper bound ie at what was set for 6400. Fro images below the lower range is seems to not apply at all (in recent test) and of course any image within the range is scaled appropriately, I hope that makes sense and answers your question. Thanks Mark
@alfalexdg2 ай бұрын
@@MarkAHunter Thank you very much for answering. Following up on my example, I understand that I can apply the preset without problems between the range of 6400 and 800, but it doesn't work for an ISO higher than 6400 and lower than 800. For that, I would need to expand the sample range for the preset, for example, from ISO 200 to ISO 12800, in order to apply the preset to a wider ISO range. I greatly appreciate the time you've taken to respond to me, thank you.
@MarkAHunter2 ай бұрын
@@alfalexdg You are welcome. One thing I would add is that it probably wouldn'd be as effective to say catch everything in one preset and have range from 100 to say 128000 (or higher). But you could have two presets... Say that you know your camera tends to add noise above iso 800, then have a one for iso 800 to X (whatever upper range you sampled), perhaps called ISO Adaptive High. Then another for iso 100 to 800 called ISO Adaptive Low. obviously the noise recovery adjustments in the two would be different.

That example at the beginning explaining how LRC , LR , ACR are all the same is excellent and a very valid point on its own . superb demonstration of the power of masks in LR/ LRC / ACR and the use of intersections in masks The general edit linear is a stroke of genius on this one with being able to see when needed . A particularly useful video for people who want to add lighting to their images . Hi Mark, I’m an audio-visual producer and I am trying to illustrate a story line which suggests the passage of time from day to night. I thought I may have to spend a considerable amount of time creating a time-laps sequence. This video will, I’m sure, help me do the same thing but without spending a lot of time waiting for darkness to fall. Thank you for your clear and concise demonstration. I can’t say it’s the best one yet because I’m a fan of all your videos.

Sadly there are many ways around protection but all these things make it less and less easy, or more of a hindrence... I hear there are developments to properly add protection for copyright using block-chains, but it is a way off yet - watch this space!

I use one preset and change the amount every time. Nice solution to that. I found that using the exposure slider gets me less "natural" results than using the 4 other sliders (highlights, shadows, whites and blacks). I set them all to the same level (-40 for example) and find the result much more pleasing. Thank you for a great video!

Thanks. The good thing about this is that for your own presets, you can make any cocktail of changes and the same thing applies - roll over them to preview the change and click on the ones you want.

Thank you for this tutorial Mark. As pre usual easy to follow along with on the images you provided. Maybe it is because I have been following your YT’s for a good long while now on a work along basis that I find that I have built up a good retained knowledge of LR . As you know ..I very very rarely process in black and white . I too though have followed your lead of moving the calibration to the same position in the develop process …using it in this bnw showed it’s power as compared to saturation .

The problem with this method in practice is that it won't survive even the smallest modifications/compressions. I mean, you can pretty much apply some color filter by 0.001 percent, the image would look identical, but the watermark won't work. Uploading it to most websites would make the watermark ineffective. Good starting point though, this seems like a creative way to do it.
@MarkAHunter6 ай бұрын
Thanks. Like I said at the close, this isn't how I invisibly mark my own work but it's good fun and something to play with... Hopefully it whets the appetite too to look in to stenography which, watermarks and images aside, is a very interesting topic, learning how files, message, images, or even videos, can all be hidden within other files, message, image, or videos :-)

Hi, for the Cragside picture, you use the escape key, what does that do compared to Ctrl X?
@MarkAHunter6 ай бұрын
Esc just backs out of the crop tool on screen. Control X on a Mac, swaps the crop... If you had eg a crop landscape 6x4 (6 being the horizontal), this would swap to portrait orientaion 4x6 and back again if for Ctrl+X again.

As soon as you select a mask tool eg the brush the box that pops up has a small square in the bottom right corner, by default it will be red. When you click on it a colour change panel pops up, just select the colour you want from there. Good luck.

Great info here! Adobe's published Order of Develop Options workflow is 1) Denoising, 2) Healing/Spot Remove tools, 3) Lens Profile Corrections, 4) Profiles, 5) Global Adjustments [all normal edits to the photo from the edit modules], and lastly 6) Local Adjustments [masks, brushes]. So it makes sense that if you go out of order and do a Spot Heal (Step 2) on top of a Local Adjustment mask (Step 6), it will throw a flag. While the software needs to recalculate the AI mask for the newly added Spot Heal brush, performance is also improved by sticking to the workflow.

Thank you for another well explained and demonstrated video Mark. One thing I would like Adobe to do is to name the masks with the component right from the off rather than having to click the mask to see what the name of it is . Having watched and worked along with your previous YTs this one today is one that tells me ..yep ..I know about the masking and intersecting . Getting down to the detail demonstrates instances where it could be used more often . A thing that I noted was that on the 3rd image at the level of working at we can see the studio and the photographer reflected I here eyes ….that wouldn’t be visible at alternate viewing distances / image sizes . Would you ever work to remove the reflections ? Thanks
@MarkAHunter6 ай бұрын
Thanks Graham. Auto labelling of the Ai masks by subject eyes, lips, etc is definately one for the Adobe wishlist. I have removed catchlight and reflected images from eyes previously but would go to Photoshop to do that and adding of catchingts too - possibly a tutorial idea!?
