Doesn't the polyurethane foam compress over time and thus allow the slab to sink?

If you have a radon mitigation system that is functioning, the amount of radon that might come from a sump pit is infinitesimally small and negligible.

If my toilet leaks sewage water throughout the house for a year and a half into my basement. What could the damage behind the wall be? If any at all?

That could be bad especially if you live in a humid area. If you own your house, it can lower value or be hard to resell. If you are renting, your landlord must fix to protect their tenant.

The radon thing is only relevant if there's a significant amount of granite under your house and if you have a membrane or concrete stopping it permeating the basement floor.

Say the company did seal it. And this happens. And said company saying we salted the driveway even though we didn't. Could this occur from just parking a car on it during the winter with slush and gunk from the road falling on to the driveway?

I hate that companies don’t explain that these pumps come without kids. I don’t like that they do this to customers. I have yet to find a reputable company who does top job; clean, honest, don’t oversell, and just plain trustworty

FYI, “If” this Thrasher ever designed and built a skate park, I guarantee it would be the gnarliest park ever, the most mind-blowing, structurally sound, anchored to the load bearing strata bedrock underneath feet of loose soil. You could pull back to back Tony Hawk 720 McTwists during a 10.2 earthquake and land smooth as Cadillac on a worn out speed bump. Point being, Thrasher Foundation Group is their own special kind of BADASS. 💪❤️

Radon is a radioactive element that would take a lot more than 4 inches of concrete to seal out of basement.

Yeah and I think that would be his leading point if the amount of “deadly radon gas” was a big concern. I think everyone would be using sump covers if this was really a big concern.

We live by a creek in a flood zone in central pa. There is a small sump pit outside our basement door. The creek itself has never flooded us, but our water table rises. In the last few years we had rain so bad that the small sump pit cannot keep up. I was running 4 pumps at one time to keep up with the water pouring into the basement. I just did a radon test and we are a little high at 4.5. Ok, so my thought on this was to fill and seal the sump pit out side and put in a new pit in the basement with a 2 pump staged system with a cap and radon mitigation system. My question is with the cap sealed, when water table rises so fast that 2 pumps can't keep up will the basement still flood with a sealed cap? I understand the water will have to go somewhere, but where? Thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions?

If the pump were to fail and the water table rised either the water will seep through the seal on the sump basin lid or the water will flow through any cracks in the concrete foundation. Water can come through the edges and corners where the floor meets up with the wall or a small crack in the concrete floor can let water through. One pump inside the house should be enough assuming you get a 1/2 hp or higher pump. Good luck! 👍🏻

Hello, I believe you are speaking of a sump pit for a perimeter drainage system. Question: on a sewer pit in basement for toilet/sink/shower/clothes washers, does the pit lid need to be sealed and have a separate vent pipe tying into houses plumbing vent pipe to outside to be code? Also is it true the entire sewage ejection pump outlet must all be 2” pipe up and into the houses main drain pipe which goes out to yard septic tank to be code? Thanks for your help. Best regards, Mike

Why did he say that the basement have negative pressure ? It should have positive pressure as the air is colder outside and denser thus having greater pressure than the warmer air inside .. I don't understand the point

Nice explanation. Would sealing cracks in your attic (using spray foam) sealing can lights, etc, reduce air leaving the upper level of your house, which would then decrease the stack effect? Or is it better to seal the bottom level first?
@ProtectShane
@ProtectShane 4 жыл бұрын
Yes seal the gaps and penetrations, the attic of the home is always priority. Look for the tops of walls, pvc and wire penetrations, can lights, attic accesses, and bathroom exhaust fans. Chimney chases as well, but you need a fireproof material for those. Spray foam works for everything else.

thanks for the video- If the lid is sealed, how would you go about being protected from a basement flood (say the water heater malfunctioned) if no water can get down into it? Is there another type designed for this purpose?

That's a good question, I'd like to seal mine too but I don't have a floor drain in the basement. I am going to install water leak alarms, at least I will know when the leak is small.
@kanetao

That's not what a sump pit is for. A sump pit siphons water out below the foundation before it gets high enough to wet the basement concrete floor to keep moisture levels down. A floor drain is what catches liquids above the floor.

Are there any older sump pumps that might have possible restrictions in changing the cover to the one you have in the video? We have a house that was built in 2000 and the sump pump cover has a quite big opening. We want to have a sealed cover but not sure if it's ok.
