OF THE PREQUEL FILMS, I LOVE EP2. OF THE SEQUEL TRILOGY, THE EMPORERS RETURN WAS REALLY AWESOMELY DONE. FELT VERY INTIMIDATING, AND MUCH MORE HORRIFIC. THE ONLY GOOD THING TO COME FROM THE SEQUEL TRILOGY IS THE NOW VERY EVIL EMPORER

EMPIRE HAS SOME GREAT MOMENTS, BUT THE PRODYTION VALUE IS LOW, AND THE CLIMAX FEELS LIKE A STAGE PLAY. THE SETS ARE REALLY CHEAP LOOKING. JEDI WAS A HUGE JUMP IN PRODUCTION VALUE FOR ALL SCIFI. PERFECT FILM

I don't like it when they damage (age) a new guitar. I want my purchase to be new. I'll do the wearing the natural way. People buy them are trying to prove something.

I realize this is an older video, but I have alternate methods for separating the contact cement immediately prior to bonding. Try sheets of cardboard, thin mdf, 1/4" plywood, or plastic sheeting instead of wood scraps, or tubing. You can pull the whole sheet/length of material along as your bringing the glued surfaces together. Even heavily warped laminate will not be able to touch the surface. The contact cement should not be tacky to the touch when ready for bonding, so the materials should slide easily between the laminate and bonding material.

Looks badass with all that black hardware on the the all-wood finish. Now you just need to make a custom decal with your name or channel for the headstock!

I love this video man. Big Metallica fan and a guitar player of 15 years. I have novice level experience with wood working from high school and I just recently took on a fascination of how the instrument is built. It’s a project I’d love to try and accomplish myself one day. This has been incredibly informative and entertaining, just subscribed. As a guitar player, some of my favorite Hetfield riffs are Dyers Eve, Battery and Holier than thou.

Thank you for this very informative and clear video. What's the best way to position figure 8 fasteners on a 18" diameter red oak table top attached to a base with a round apron? The top is a ring with a recessed glass (built mostly of several quarter sawn segments glued properly to avoid cupping).

awesome work on the guitar and as for my favourite metallica song it might be overplayed but its master of puppets because its a song that has really cool vocals harmonies super fast guitar solos and heavy riffs

Howdy Bob, Looks like I'm a bit late to the comment section since your video is almost a year old as I write this, but just wanted to say great job! Especially for your first axe build. You sure have a very nice workshop and that definitely helps when taking on a project like building your first axe. Especially an Explorer. Maybe make the Flying V next to add to your Hetfield collection. Better yet, give me your address so I can come over and build one for me!! haha. As requested in your video, my fave song would be Master Of Puppets. This was the song I heard playing waaay back in the mid-80's and asked..."Who's that?? Wow!" "Metallica." Cliff was the one who got my attention at first. How could he not!?! The ultimate headbanger bar-none. As we know, he was gone soon after and far too young. Looking forward to more videos, Bob. I'm subscribed.

Heat gun was the wrong move. The heat softens the laminate. Next time have an old Gatorade bottle with a few pin holes in the top filled with lacquer thinner on hand. Squirt it in the area you want to lift the laminate and it will come right up. Let it dry and restick the laminate.

Just so you know man, you should be able to play a guitar cover of Metallica no problem. I've posted covers on KZbin before with issue, and a lot of other people have too. The guitar turned out beautifully btw! Love the natural wood look!

I used an old blower/lawn vacuum hung it outside the garage. Adapted my 2.5” shop vac to the vac hard hose, and it works like a champ. Plenty of suction even with (doubled) 12’ of hose.

A thing I noticed is that where the the headstock meets the rest of the neck the wood is dangerously thin, that can cause the headstock to snap if you're not careful handling the guitar. The volute, the thicker part on the headstock, should be placed right where they join to prevent that. It's the part that you're working at at around 12:50. Try watching how it's done on other guitars to get an idea. I'm not a builder, I'm just a bedroom player.
