My Grandfather was attached to an American unit whilst serving in the Royal Artillery. He was taken prisoner by the Chinese a week before the ceasefire. He survived his captivity, and he said the North Koreans were the most cruellest people on Earth far worse than what the Japanese did to so many in WW2.Love you Grandad, always miss you. Hope you're enjoying yourself in Heaven. X

The USS Enterprise was scrapped in 1959/1960 by a GOP administration! The most decorated ship in US history was scrapped and not turned into a museum. Why? The GOP did not vote to have her built. Having CV-6 as a museum would be a constant reminder that the GOP failed to protect America!

Kenneth Simon Ayotte PLACE OF BIRTH: Detroit, Michigan HOME OF RECORD: Grosse Ile, Michigan AWARDS BY DATE OF ACTION:1 of 1 Silver Star AWARDED FOR ACTIONS DURING World War II Service: Marine Corps Rank: Private Division: 1st Marine Division GENERAL ORDERS: Commander 7th Fleet: Serial 0855 (April 17, 1944) CITATION: The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private Kenneth Simon Ayotte (MCSN: 444305), United States Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving with the FIRST Marine Division in action against enemy Japanese forces on Cape Gloucester, New Britain, on 26 December 1943. Voluntarily manning a machine gun on an amphibious tractor as it moved forward from the assault company's lines, Private Ayotte fought with skill and daring aggressiveness despite withering hostile machine gun and rifle fire and, on at least two crucial occasions, courageously retrieved hand grenades which had landed in the tractor and hurled them back at the enemy. Private Ayotte's heroic initiative and fearless conduct in the face of imminent peril were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Funny to see this. Read "Neptuns Inferono by James D. Hornfisher. There he explains how the USS Boise did not sink 6 ship on her own. She was involved in two battles and made the japs pay but she did not sink them alone. These kills were credited to her for propaganda reasons. After the brutal losses at the beginning of the Guadalcanal campaign they needed the moral boost at home.

Dad was in this unit for the last 4 or 5 months of the war in 1953, so isn't in this video, but there isn't much about this unit out there to begin with. He did tell me he would get shot at by snipers while fixing lines though, and said he was on patrols often. Not sure where that all happened. Thanks for the video.
