It is cold and the ocean hit the shore with the waves. It gives warning sign that tourist even professional surfers should not mess with the nature or they would end up dead in the water. Last visit was August 35 F and it was raining Sunday morning. The police information window closes all weekend until monday at 9am. Misguided info on web saying Barrow is amazing to visit. I did visit the Northern most of the shore next to Tacos restaurant and Top of the World hotel in early September and i think it would be my last time. Muddy road, all broken and damaged bungalows and vehicles.

Hello Meredith I know the video is almost 11 years old but I hope you can still help me. Do you have any information if it is theoretically possible to cross the Bering Strait from Uelen to Alsaka with a car. Over the frozen ice logically....
@allcedars
@allcedars 2 жыл бұрын
This would be highly impossible and extremely risky. It's not completely solid ice across the strait, and there is only a small window of time and in only specific spots where it's possible for a plane to land.

How can you get there? Is there any tours? Do you know the prices to get the US little Diomede island? I live in SF, CA.
@allcedars
@allcedars 2 жыл бұрын
It's pretty difficult to get to Little Diomede. I do think there was an Alaskan cruise that stopped at the Diomede Islands several years ago, but I don't know which cruise line it was. Tours on Diomede are not typical.

I wonder if it is possible to visit Little Diomede Island for a day in the summer. I have heard you can charter a helicopter from Nome, but only with a 15-minute turnaround time. That hardly seems enough time considering the expense and distance to get there.

I cant find an answer for this, but is little diomede classified as part of the United States or a part of United States Minor Outlying Islands?

It's definitely part of the United States. :) I have never heard of it being classified as US Minor Outlying Islands.

Video is from 2011. You can't do this in 2020 anymore. Ice is too thin or nonexistent between the islands. :( Global warming made this possible in less than a decade...

Really interesting. We're you there for research? I happened to notice the sunrise and sunset times for little diomede and big diomede, there seems to be a big difference in those times for two islands so close together? Did you witness this phenomina?
@allcedars
@allcedars 4 жыл бұрын
I was a teacher on the island. The sunrise and sunset happen at the same time since they are only two miles apart, but the digital time is different because the International Dateline is between the two islands. When you are on Little Diomede Island and you are looking into Big Diomede, you are looking into "tomorrow"!
