I already can't get past the idea of a stylish suburban woman nicknamed "Piglet," it seems so contrived and unbelievable. Hey I see you reviewing numerous horrors there seems like a good idea if you ask me! 👍 "A ton of library books" now that's what I like to see too 👍😃😺 go libraries! 📚

The only thing that concerned me about Elena Ferrante were those corny covers of her most popular paperbacks but "My Brilliant Friend" is a realistic "slice of life" of poor Italian girls in Naples that is engagingly written and addressed some of my own background via my grandmother, very much recommended 👍❤

It seems ridiculous that an "it" girl in all things is nicknamed Piglet, it's the sort of thing that puts me off a book immediately. Absurdity has its own rules and doesn't work if they're not followed! Pearl was being so considerate not to enter unless you gave the all clear! 😸😆

I also get most everything from the library, usually the Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch where there are 1 million books, and why would I go anywhere else?! 😆😸 I buy books that I want to have as what I consider classics past or modern. The moderns are not frequent. The last were Sayaka Murata's books in English, a few years ago 😸😆

That is good 👍, I just have the "crazy" idea that reading should be free 😸😆 Of course capitalism has turned it into an entire industry but most of the products of that industry can be ignored. I learn about them by watching Book Tubers! That leaves a limited number of books, which I can get free at the library. Outstanding ones past or modern are the ones I will buy to have for any-time reading 👍 The only time recently that I bought a lot of books was "the pandemic" because the libraries were not open 😲 but Barnes and Noble was. I got by with limited food to buy books!

🥵 "Mary" is an odd and interesting novel eventually going the horror route but not in any usual way, and featuring a 50 year-old female protagonist that one doesn't see a great lot of in books. It leaves one thinking "What was that?" but also provides a strange satisfaction. The author goes deep into political correctness in explaining his writing of a woman character, but this doesn't bother me since his result of an unusual book speaks for itself 👍

By the way it says "The Paris Bookseller" is fiction based on very real people like Sylvia Beach. It is technically fiction because it is in the form of a story, but it stars real historic people as characters. Oh and now I want to read it LOL 😸😆📚

Somehow the Graham Jones sounded more like a Grady Hendrix 😸😆 I've only read Jones' werewolf novel "Mongrels," which was pretty good but read more like a social novel about poor whites/American Indians with Jones' mordant humor included, the horror was just a framing device 👍🦇

But you should read at least the HK Choi book. Her "Yolk" was very good I thought! Even if it is "young adult," I did not realize this at all and its depiction of NYC in general was accurate. 👍 The "young adult" makes no sense as it is about Korean sisters living in the city who are in their twenties, not teens!

Yes, I think StoryGraph has a function you can set at owned books. I’m also on a sort of book-buying ban. The internet is just too tempting for me. I do the Read What You Own Challenge. I will read 12 books before buying any new or used books on the internet. There are a lot of BookTubers who do the Read What You Own Challenge. Michael K. Vaughan is going to read a whopping 500 books before he buys any new books and he’s been at it for over a year now. My hat’s off to him. I think I’ve read 30ish books last year. Which is the most I’ve read ever in a year. So I’m chuffed with that. Favorite non-fiction must be Eighty Days: Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland’s History-Making Race Around the World Favorite short story is Weird Heroes: The Black Brotherhood by Joshua Reynolds Favorite fiction is Doctor Death vs. the Secret Twelve by Harold Ward Favorite graphic novel is The Incal by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius

@@amandajune97 Indeed most of them I enjoyed. Only a one star book that was really awful. Lady Godiva and Master Tom, not only was it boring but also discriminating against Jewish people and it wasn't only a character in the book it was the aditude of the writer as well. I don't often give books one star but this one definitely deserved it.
