I believe that episodic structure is because it started as a weekly radio show. Each week had a short story. That's also what made your review so interesting to me, I really wanted to get the perspective of someone who wasn't already familiar with the radio series. I believe some of the German audience just wanted "the same thing with pictures".

The reason why you care about the villain in the movie is because he represents the far-right political party in Germany very accurately, it draws a lot of parallels between scenes that seem bizarre and made up that are much closer to reality than you want them to be. In my opinion the best thing about the kangaroo in general are these punchline jokes that actually get better the more you think about it/know about politics/history.

Love this review!! I typed a longer comment agreeing w/ your point about wanting more character depth but I'm tech-challenged and lost it--but yes in that vein I wondered while reading AoM myself if it would've been helpful for Ellis to have stretched out the flirtation/will-they-won't-they thing between Cora and Paris. Maybe I'm just partial to that kind of storyline lol but I do think maybe seeing Cora in a slightly lower stakes, more "human" conflict i.e. "does she like me??" could've added depth and maybe a touch of whimsy to an otherwise tragic character. Paris too I feel like we might've learned more about if it took them longer to get together? Idk! Anyway I subscribed and love quickie reviews like this, ty for making it!

Glad you liked it! Yeah, it felt like Ellis was regretting killing off a love interest in the last book, so she wrote in another with almost an assumption the reader would slot Paris into that role smoothly

I just finished moominpappa at sea and HAD to look if there was some analysis because its such a deep, mysterious, melancholy book, which its a surprise if you think that is for children and the first stories werent so hard to read, so yeah i stumbled on this video and im so glad! I really liked to know about tove's other book where we can get a glimpse of her life, honestly for me tove is so interesting, when im reading the moomins i want to know what she was thinking while writing. Finished moominpappa at sea only made me feel sad and confused but so curious to understand the story.

Finally! Ever since I found out about the whole microtonal music world and going outside of 12TET I've been looking for some incorporation into jazz and this is the first one that actually sounds good. I love it, you should make more of this!
