That's a little precious gem. Looks like the pipe is set too long, restraining the engine rpm potential. Am I wrong?
@AmpAbuser
@AmpAbuser 5 ай бұрын
The pipe has made 51k rpm at that length with a Picco P0 .05 - for this test the needle valve is not set for peak yet with a pipe, Tested the exhaust restriction valve to lower rpm. Was a function check proof of concept - want to be able to throttle it down some as needed.

Hi, I’m currently building something very similar, I’m nearly there, but struggling with the tank setup. I’ve made a fuel tank from a small plastic bottle. It has a clunk and refuelling line, the issue I’m having is that pressure builds up in the tank, causing fuel to pour out the engines Venturi. When I try my best to drain the pressure the engine won’t pick up the fuel, either way I can’t get it to run. Did you have this problem? Do you know how I can combat it? Many thanks
@AmpAbuser
@AmpAbuser 6 ай бұрын
A fuel tank needs a open vent line as fuel is pulled into the engine the vent line allows air to draw into the tank until the fuel is depleted. My tanks only have 2 lines clunk and vent. I fill up the tank through the clunk line and the vent expels the air as the fuel fills up the tank. Most a vid when you can I have subscribed to your channel. Look forward to seeing the project. You have your vids set for kids no one can comment. =)

@@AmpAbuser ok, makes sense as it runs fine on a 3 line tank. I guess I’ll refuel via the line that goes to the Venturi and leave the refuelling line open as a vent. I’ll post a video when it’s finished, it’s like a combat wing converted to 049 power. Also building a pylon racer similar to your lil speedy, sheet balsa wing with an airfoil sanded in. Thanks! Oh, and how did you construct your tank? I used a small plastic bottle, cut to size with a 3D printed cap for the two pipes. I then coated the cap with epoxy to make watertight and secured, unfortunately the fuel seems to degrade the epoxy so I need to find an alternative.

Hi, I was told that car engines don’t have enough torque for aero applications. How did you get this to work so well?
@AmpAbuser
@AmpAbuser 7 ай бұрын
The car engines produce their power at higher rpms, speed props and tuned pipes make for a great combo. .12 size engines have been popular with outrigger hydro boats. I have projects with .05 and .07 car engines that fly very well with their planes. Example here- kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3WVpJZje9mggas

How does the fuel tank work is it pressurized? mine has the tank on it.
@AmpAbuser
@AmpAbuser 8 ай бұрын
If you look close top left side of the engine mount there is a small brass tube, it is the vent for the fuel tank, the other side has the same size tube that feeds the engine carb. So during fuel draw running the vent sucks in air to help move the fuel. Uses a 15cc nylon bottle tank.

I've always thought that putting a small flywheel on one of these would be fun to see how low it would allow idle to go. The Testors plastic CL planes from the 70s and 80s had a starter spring on them that worked pretty well and behind that starter spring was a small thick disk flywheel. Not sure why they had that flywheel on there, since there was no throttle and the plane would just barely hold level flight wide open.

I still buy and use Klotz KL200 with the castor mix in my fuel. The smell, alone, is worth it! The Norvel motors run great on this 50/50 oil mix, as well.

@@tedbacks6365 Fuel tank level, age of the fuel, warped prop, gold plate plug improves continuity and bling lol. I am around 580ft sea level and ran it in a climate controlled room 71F. Note once you sag the small motor it needs to simply be ran rich for a bit to reduce total frame heat to a lower level, from there you can reset the NV for top rpm. If your engine was used could have been ran with too much prop / heat / lower oil package / or simply just a dud / check head shim count and leak free tank and lines. Can not recall if the muffler had a baffle. My engine was bought used on ebay. I have 3 of these engines 2 came new in the box complete with everything sold with the engine. Very cool. My grandfather built one of these Dumas thriftway models and it hung above his fire place as far back as I can remember. I would always look up and admire its beauty. On my 18th birthday he gave it to me as a gift. I immediately got some servo’s and a controller and had it on the water in a few weeks. Very fun boat to run. The brass rudder broke about twenty years ago and it’s been collecting dust ever since. When my son gets a few years older we will restore her back to new. Thanks for sharing.
