I have an upcoming trip into Amsterdam by cruise ship May 2025 and am running into deadends everywhere trying to learn the best route to get into the city center without hiring a taxi. There are no excursions available and limited information on the public transportation routes. Any helpful hints?

I am assuming you will be docking at Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA), which is relativly close to the city center. I believe it's about a 20 minute walk, orf course thats dependant on where in the city center you are going. I just came back from 4 nights in Amsterdam after a Viking River Cruise, and we walked just about everywhere. If you are unwilling, or unable to walk long distances the public transporation is really good, you can use either the bus or the tram. I think from the port you are looking for tram line 26 whcih is roughly a 5 minute walk from the port and that should take you to the city center. Rideshares are also an option, when I disembarked from my cruise we took an Uber to our hotel. Both Apple Maps and Google Maps worked really well in Amsterdam for walking directions. I hope this helps!

@@loriburton4416 In my opinion the easiest way to get to the city center is by using a rideshare service like Uber. Your cruise line may have a shuttle, and if so this could also be an easy way to get to the city center. Otherwise you’ll need to to go the nearby IJmuiden Seaport stop and take bus 382 (I think) towards Amsterdam Sloterdijk. From there you will you will need to transfer to a train that is headed to Amsterdam Central Station. The bus+train option is about 35-45 minutes, a rideshare or taxi is approximately 30 minutes. I hope this helps!

Some notes: The mayor of Venice actually says that the fee must serve as an instrument of knowledge for tourists: the days when you have to pay the tax are the busiest days. So this should be considered a warning to tourists that those are the worst days for a day trip. Many critics say that this operation only serves to avoid the UNESCO black list. For example, the city of Venice has had a special law available for two years (valid only in Venice) to regulate short-term rentals. The regulation is continually postponed and in any case it will not serve to limit the number of short-term rentals but only to introduce some rules. It seems clear that there is not enough will to fight overtourism. This is what UNESCO inspectors have declared several times. Venice avoided the black list only because of the assembly vote which did not take into account the opinions of the inspectors.

Business 101: If you can't find employees while others in your sector are having hiring freezes, the issue is 100% on you. It's either a lack of compensation, an undesirable work/life balance, or both. That said, the FAA's 500 hour rule pretty much guarantees that pilots are going to use regionals as a stepping stone, and I'm surprised you didn't mention that.

I tool an Alaska to Japan (Yokohama) cruise last October 2023! It was on the HAL Westerdam. It began in Seattle but, I hopped on in Juneau Alaska. We stopped in Kushiro, Hokkaido Japan and two days later in Yokohama. I recommend an ocean crossing cruise regardless of which cruise line.

2024 travel advisory lists 6 states as "do not travel", 7 states as "reconsider travel", 17 states as "use increased caution", and only 2 as "use normal precautions." An article from January titled "Mexico marks another record-breaking year for murders" also indicates reoccurring crime. None of this sounds like an improvement.
