I began my ancestral research journey a couple of years ago. I started to believe that we had Jewish ancestors. No one in my family believed me! Now I can send them this video so they can finally start to believe it. My family was from Sao Miguel (maternal side) and Faial (paternal side). So cool, thank you for your research!

The inquisition of the catholic church did not affect only jews: it was a cancer in portuguese society which decimated creativity and initiative at a time when it was most needed. Portuguese jews were the perfect people to help with the business which resuted from the new commercial routes being set up. In fact, many who went to Amsterdam and New Amsterdam (today New York City) greatly helped the Low Countries in becoming a competing centre of commerce in Europe. While Portugal became a catholic zealot country, following the example of Castille.

When Colombo returned from his first voyage to the America's in 1493, supposedly due to a storm, he and his ship ended up in Lisbon, for repairs, bedore going back to Spain, Hearing about his arrival, Kinh João II, who was resting in a small place north of Lisbon, called Vale Paraíso, sent orders for Colombo do go there and meet him, So Colombo travelled the 50 kms to Vale Paraíso where he stayed with the king for about a week. To this day nobody knows what they discussed. Nowadays the Village of Vale Paraíso has a memorial and an exhibit referring this event.

Cristóvão Colombo used the Portuguese caravels on his voyage to what he thought was the direct route to India going west. At the time no one in medieval Europe knew about the Americas and he ended up somewhere in te Caribbean (Isla Hispaniola, presently the Dominican Republic). He was married to a Portuguese lady, daughter of the Capitão Donatário of Madeira Island and lived with her in the Island of Porto Santo for a few years.

Image at 39:04 the correct name is Pêro da Covilhã, not "Pedro". You should also mention a crucial detail: at the end of the first Vasco da Gama voyage 1497-98, at the end of the certainly troublesome stay in Western India, after fleeing Calicut, Vasco da Gama picked up a Jewish man who was crucial in what happened next. He pointed the Portuguese to Goa, to which they came back to in the next trip. Goa would become the fundamental base for Portuguese activities in all of Asia.

Most Portuguese in Portugal or the Azores have a small admixture of Jewish DNA. I'm certain this is also true for Spain, as it is for most other European nations. The reality is that neither religion, nationality, nor the color of one's skin are what determines our humanity. We were created as one by one maker. All the differences we imagine or think we see are figments of our imagination, illusions. Illusions are the products of our desire to be different and better than our brothers. The desire to be different results in alienation from our maker, who created us in his spiritual image and like himself in all ways. The desire to be separate and different from our maker and our brothers is the cause of all the world's atrocities and turmoil. It includes our mental and physical violence against ourselves and each other. The issue man has always faced is confusing who he is with the needs of the body. He does all he can to satisfy its unending greed, hunger and lust. His real need is and will always be for spiritual connection. A spiritual connection with the divine must be made first. Once we recognize ourselves as one spirit, one mind, the key to re-establishing God's Kingdom on our planet will be found.

@@dancing4adonai221 Unfortunately none of our brothers are immune from both persecuting and being persecuted. Interesting there is no record of the Visigoths fighting the Arabs meaning there were not as many as we think . 100,000 killed in 1391 rubbish total rubbish Spain did not exist in 1391 it did not exist untill 1714 before Castile Leon etc Ferdinand and Isabella were not the King and Queen of Spain but of Castile and Aragon.. the Alhambra decree says leave Castile and Aragon

This is fantastic! It is so good to see more Rockland County history, there are always more details and people I never knew about. Can't tell when these stories were filmed, it's confusing! The true hero, Gerry Donnellan, Vietnam Vet, did so much for the Vets here. I met him a few times, and he looked like he does here, but that was back in the 1980s and 90s! Same with Petersen's Boatyard. Right away there's mention of tropical storm Danielle. September 2022 he says, and it checks out, but the boatyard hasn't looked like that in a Century! I grew up in Piermont, where the trains brought the troops from Camp Shanks. So I became a River Rat! My very first on the books Summer job, was at Petersen's Boatyard! I was the Petroleum Transfer Engineer, I manned the gas pumps for the boaters coming in. This was 1974, I think. The boatyard was the same, but very little work and few employees. I don't remember any of those mentioned in the film, just Mr. Carle, who ran the whole place (it was big!) and the mechanic, Rosie. Rosie was Italian, excitable, never stopped talking, hilarious! That fellow was right when he said the yard attracted characters. There must have been other people there, I had to man my post, with a long walk back to any active areas. Loved it there, funny, I did a little research on the place lately. I still have to watch the rest, so I'd better shut up now!

Dear Ms. Reynolds, I must apologize for the intemperate comments of Mr. Coriolanus, aka Jeff Meade, below. His purpose is to prevent civil discussion. As I hope I already said, your statement of openness to the authorship question is welcome by those of us who have studied the case carefully enough to fully understand the desperately precarious edifice that passes for Shakespeare biography in the circles that Mr. Meade frequents. In my opinion, the content of your video did not do justice to your avowed open-mindedness, for much of what you state as fact is in doubt, or its relevance to the question doubted (by many informed persons and in some cases for more than a hundred years). The authorship question is not something peripheral to study of the plays and their best understanding, as the Oxfordians have abundantly demonstrated in books like those by Mark K. Anderson and Bill Farina, to name only two. Perhaps if you widen your reading a bit to include books like that, rather than just following on faith what your local Shakespeare Prof says is gospel, you might come to see why the great French literary critic Abel Lefranc declared himself, many decades ago, on of those of "free mind" in the case who already understood that the "orthodox doctrines" could never be sustained indefinitely, but must someday fall under the weight of their own historic record of evasion and bath faith argument (of the sort engaged in here by Mr. Meade who has in the space of under a weak called me "senile" and "a fraud"). As I told him below, these statements are both malicious and negligent.

Yet when the royal court paid him, and made him a King's Man, and when the College of Heralds made him a gentleman, and when Ben Jonson published his name in two cast lists, they spelled him name Shakespeare or Shake-speare. @@Jeffhowardmeade Shakespeare Of London was not the same person as Shaksper of Stratford. The hyphen is pretty much a dead giveaway. And no my ancestors were not remotely Herszkowicz. @Jeffhowardmeade
@Jeffhowardmeade 2 жыл бұрын
@@stevenhershkowitz2265 So by your standard, they're not your ancestors. Different spelling means not the same. The Shakespeare (spelled thusly) who collected a payment for court performance in 1595 asking with Richard Burbage and Will Kempe was Shakespeare of Stratford. The William Shakespeare (spelled thusly) who was made a member of the King's Men and (with the same spelling) issued scarlet cloth for a suit of the King's livery, was Shakespeare of Stratford. The Shakespeare (spelled thusly) who was declared a gentleman was the one from Stratford. The Shakespeare (spelled thusly) who acted a Ben Jonson play was Shakespeare of Stratford. The Shake-speare (spelled thusly) who acted in a different play was also Shake-speare of Stratford. The Shakespeare (spelled thusly) who gave a deposition in a lawsuit in 1612 was Shakespeare of Stratford. The poet Mr. Will Shake-speare (spelled thusly) who was described as a gentleman and actor was the Shake-speare from Stratford. But I guess when John Weever stood under Shakspeare's (spelled thusly) monument in Stratford in about 1618 and copied down the epitaph, referring to him as "Willm Shakspeare the famous poet", that must have been some OTHER poet, because exact spelling matters. The documentation that Shakespeare of Stratford and Shakespeare the actor and poet of London are the same person is so thorough that only a lunatic would try to claim they were two different people. You should go back to the days when you claimed Shakespeare was a front man. You didn't look nearly so ridiculous back then.
