How wonderful to hear this!! I never realized that this song was from 1904. I’m ashamed to say this but I’ve always assumed it was written for the Judy Garland movie “Meet Me In St. Louis”. Well, now I know!! Thank you!! Wonderful record.

All i can hear in my mind is : "Jesus loves the little children, All the little children of the World. Red and yellow, black and white, They are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the World!" 🥰

Is it just me or does the piano in the beginning sound like something an ice cream truck would play.

I have this on a 45 rpm record by the Shirelles. Lovely to hear it played on a music box.
I love this song but i like it better sung by Billy Murray

So satisfying to see (and listen to) such a beautiful phonograph working. Must have been very expensive for the original owner and I assume not many of these survived up to date, especially in this good condition.

I'd also like to say that I love this video because of how jolly all of the singers sound in this recording. Thank you for uploading this! I also play this back every Christmas since 13 years ago and now have my kids listening to it in amazement!

I think one day very very soon we could scan these records into our national archives and we could all have access to those recordings. I can't imagine how many more historical records are out there just waiting to be found!

This reminds me of something my late grandfather would like, God rest his soul. Grandfather had an interest in quite a few things, and he knew quite a of these antiques from his childhood well.

You can hear a performance of the song in a staged-concert production by Lyric Theatre of San Jose. I arranged the show for a salon orchestra and am the conductor. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y37Ee36unJ56qKcfeature=shared

I was so confused at first, because i know I had recognized the tune from my childhood, but not the lyrics in the description. then I realized where I heard the tune, and the lyrics to the song that I know it by are as follows, (start at 1:24) Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world, red and yellow, black and white, they're all precious in his sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world.

John Terrell is one of those early recording pioneers that there's almost no information on. I haven't even been able to find a picture of him or when he lived. According to DAHR he stopped recording in the first half 1901, they also call this record a 9'' though, so I don't know how accurate it is.
