I really enjoy your videos. I was able to score a onan 4k natural gas stand by rig. The church was gunna give it to a scraper so I saved it. Gunna fix it up and put it back into service. Keep your videos up learning a lot from yea 😊. Thank you

JJ You need to run the JB longer to get the moisture out of the engine. natural gas and propane make lots of water...

Have the identical one that I use to this day after it was left outside for dead for over 2 decades. The best gen-set I've ever seen and the utmost simplest and efficient. I did a complete restoration on the thing about 10 years ago now and it's been the most useful thing I've probably ever done. Hope you enjoy yours and wish you all the same success with it. Otherwise she sounds great and it's putting out power it looks like according to the Amp gauge for the field windings. Good luck my man!

Hey! Glad to see you're back - love your collection and videos (From Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦). Any thoughts on 15 kw RDJC with 1997 hours?
@jjjj-uf4bw4 ай бұрын
The 15 kw RDJC is the King of them all as for the J series in my opinion especially if you like diesels. 2000 hours is okay if it was properly maintained. Hopefully, an RDJC will show up on CL or Marketplace from my area someday and if so, it will be a future project for me. .

@@jjjj-uf4bw thanks! Decent shape but missing the "hood". I know that these air cooled djc's are tough but didn't see much in the way of videos or testing of the liquid cooled RDJC'S so thank you for your feedback! Looking forward to your new videos and glad you are back 🙂

I rebuilt a Coleman Powermate 5750 that I found in my grandfather's garage last week. He said "If you can fix it; you can have it." I haven't tested it with a load yet. I just hope it can handle my 180' deep well pump. Tip with the Ex27 engine: If it won't stay running, replace or unplug the low oil sensor. (orange wire going to the cutoff switch)

Diesel generators and the conundrum of being used as a emergency power source. The thing is the generator needs to be rated to handle big startup loads like water pumps air conditioning but a lot of the time it's running at less than 10% of its capacity so you get the wet stacking problem. My solution was to use the diesel generator to charge batteries which run an inverter that also get charged with solar panels. The generator only runs when there is insufficient solar and foot for several days in a row but the generator runs at near full capacity so it gets up to full temperature and alleviates any problems with wet stacking.

Suggestion put Hardie board on the walls and ceiling. This will give you some fire resistance in case something goes seriously wrong.

Awsome videos and restoration work! So wondering if you can help answer. What kinds of thd are you getting and also what kind of voltage spike are you getting when a large load is dropped off the generator. How high does the voltage spike?
@f-j-Services7 ай бұрын
I think it would be cool to synchronize them together, if one shuts off, a breaker will trip and full load on the other. Why not lol?

Hey Johnny, what kind of transfer switches are you using to alternate between your big gen (djc) and the smaller backup unit? Love your videos (from Nova Scotia)!] Thanks!
@jjjj-uf4bw9 ай бұрын
Hi Jeffanthony5434 - I home brewed "generator switch box" to alternate between the DJC and JB. The main switch is from an Onan OT 70 ATS, but everything else is pieced together. The generator switch can be wirelessly switched up to 100 feet using a key fob. My house is 50 feet away from the generator room.

Nicely Done! I love the air cooled Onan diesels, I own a single cylinder version I restored from being stuck from decades of sitting outside under tarps. Mine is unbelievable on how little fuel they burn but it is a single cylinder, I'm sure the twin is a little more thirsty than the single? But it is definitely much smoother without the 3 dead strokes of the single @1800 rpms. But Onan knew this was a problem with the singles and put a boost cap in the field circuit to increase the output on the 3 dead strokes knowing the rpms would drop off a little bit. They had a particular name for the cap and points system they used for that. But I forget that by now Lol.

I picked up a 5.5kva genset that hasn't run for 12 years and in its 1000 hours it hardly got loaded. I loaded it up with 3kw and man sparks and junk flew out the exhaust pipe, it glowed bright yellow looking in there and had a flame coming out once it was shut down. That's a bad case of wet stacking where the stuff stacked layer upon layer. Now i gotta run it for several hours loaded to clean it out. I might post up a vid of it.
