I've been writing a fanfic continuation to The Book of Bill and I've twisted my own brain into a knot trying to understand my own plot. Like, there's the main plot that breaks the fourth wall (addressing the reader like in the original book) but stays within the fifth wall, but he also occasionally breaks the fifth wall (for example, telling readers an update was late because he gave me COVID), which contains an additional plot point that explains how Bill got the fanfic onto AO3, making _me_ a character in the fic. It goes as follows: Bill was possessing Alex in an attempt to grow his cult following by writing the Book of Bill, but Alex betrayed him by writing an ending in which Bill lost again. I was upset by this ending, and Bill knew, so he reached out to me. I wanted to help Bill take over the world, but I was unable to travel to Gravity Falls/Confusion Hill due to my constant parental supervision. As a compromise, I introduced Bill to AO3 and allowed him to telepathically write a fanfic for me to then post on AO3 to rally support from his other fans. However, due to the nature of the telepathic link, some of his subconscious thoughts slip through in the form of codes. This means that there are two explanations, one lower and one higher, to both The Book of Bill _and_ The Fic of Bill. In the original book, the lower explanation is that he wrote it in therapy and the higher explanation is that he possessed Alex. In the fic, the lower explanation is that he stole a cellphone from a guard at the Theraprism and the higher explanation is that he formed a telepathic link with me. Now, Idek which wall this breaks, but I recently decided to fuck with my own mind even more. You see, fans have taken to roleplaying with me in the comments (they're themselves and I'm Bill), and shortly after posting a chapter involving The Axolotl, I decided that _every_ roleplay was "canon" to my fic as a different timeline _and_ that only The Axolotl could see every timeline. Can you please explain my own fanfic to me?
