Love and respect are in tension with each other in regards to responsibility. The more she wants him to act against her stated will for her own good out of love the less he will respect her. The more he wants his stupid choices and bad traits to be respected because of his ego the less lovable he becomes. I love to love but I am terrified of being in love. It makes me feel responsible for her mistakes when I know I can prevent them by disrespecting her wishes. It makes her feel unloved when I let her be instead of fighting for her with her.
