The test has FPS Booster enabled in the "vanilla" scenario, and ULOD is in place instead of Visibility Control for consistency with previous tests. The real base game never runs more than 60 FPS.

@@Kenny1_C8 ahh i thought it would be completely vanilla without any mods. I've been thinking upgrading my setup from zen 2 ryzen to something alder lake or zen 4 but after seeing this benchmark it's probably not going to be a huge performance jump. Cities Skylines 2 is still very expensive and seems to be more GPU demanding. It honestly suck paradox don't really care anymore into CS1 but still managed to get CS2 performance so terrible.
@Kenny1_C8
@Kenny1_C8 2 ай бұрын
You shouldn't expect much from a Zen 2 to a more recent setup, because at best you can get ~75% uplift in FPS (which maybe the extreme case like going from 3500 to 14900KS), something which is smaller than the benefit of turning on FPS booster, and nothing revolutionary. I do the upgrade purely for the last digit improvement since PO-intensive scenes are just so demanding. By the way, CS2 have a very heavy CPU tax in late game when you have an extremely large suburban area around the downtown. In this case it is better to have a recent CPU. Everything else is GPU bound.

@@Kenny1_C8 Yeah. The CS 2 using newer version of unity engine which has DOTS so the game load can evenly distributed to all of the CPU core except the graphic rendering part because CS2 originally started development when the DOTS is still fairly new. I might consider upgrading my system for CS2 but not for now. Probably when the Intel Arrow Lake LGA 18xx is coming out. It might be better perform than the latest ryzen AM5 socket CPUs.

I found myself leaving this comment out to reply... In my opinion, in Cities: Skylines, until now, Intel mid- and high-end chips perform better than their AMD competitors at the same price range, and Intel ones win at the cost of higher energy consumption and heat output. Since I did not look into chips other than 5800X3D, 3900X, and 13700K, as well as their performance in other games, I would not say that is the absolute situation for all chips in all games.

For the FPS part, I think it is the instruction per clock by the clock speed (not clock speed on its own) is the dominant factor in modded CS1. As long as you have more than 4 cores, core counts doesn't have a big impact on the FPS of the game.

No it shouldn't.... Even if you grab a 7700x3D soon it shouldn't bring increase in performance beyond a few frames but the cache will help tons on this type of games, probably best bet is to get 5800x3D if you seek to play this game and invest in 64GB like some recommend, even more if the motherboard doesn't run into issues like Ryzen 7th gen might. I don't play the game but I been tracking single-core performance increase for more than a decade and there haven't been a lot of improvements to be honest, but you do get faster DDR5 memory now and M.2 with high IPS too help loading assets in real time and improve on virtual memory performance. 7700x and Intel 13700K with DDR5 are the best we have and they don't bring more than 100% performance gain compare to previous Ryzen from 2nd and 3rd gen, a 7700K from Intel has the same performance as a Ryzen 2600x so took them almost a decade to double their performance with the new 13900K, that's how slow things are going. Soon we might see CPU reaching 6Ghz Boost Clocks and improve cache memory on Intel to compete with the uprising performance that AMD is bringing to the table. Maybe a nice time to upgrade a PC for this game will come with 9th gen from Ryzen using the same DDR5 system as prices for both mother/ram will decrease over the years.

That's the thing, the industry is (if at all) optimizing for GPU because 99 out of 100 times that's the limiting factor. Feels 12700k is the best choice for new PC if considering 58x3D with $449? Seems there is no major difference between 3900x and 58x3D. I saw ur previous video that compared 3900x(128G+6800xt) and 12700kf(3070), on both heavy and medium loading, 12700kf had much more fps.

I would recommend 58X3D for those Cities: Skyline players only if they: a) are already using AM4 motherboards, b) have difficulty in switching to a new platform, and c) want to increase FPS desperately. Like those who invested heavily in DDR4 and refused to redo their OS.

It's completely up for the test settings and games. 5800x3D will go toe to toe with 12900k on many games, watch a benchmark on microsoft flight simulator and you'd say: "Wow the 5800x3D is the undisputed king." On CS it is far worse, the conclusion in either situation is heavily biased because of the game you looked at. Also there is one thing that is quite significant, but often overlooked: Power consumption. The 5800x3D is vastly more energy efficient. Simply said don't put on such a huge filter before drawing conclusions.
@Kenny1_C8
@Kenny1_C8 2 жыл бұрын
@@brohvakiindova4452 I believe that the performance of 5800X3D in Cities: Skylines is somehow workload dependent. In Cities: Skylines, using 3900X as a reference, unlike 12700KF which has a consistent uplift around 60%, it could be a uplift between 20% to 150% for 5800X3D in different setups. Also, other reviews using vanilla Cities: Skylines and large population saves, but with no Steam workshop custom assets and no detailings, show that 5800X3D falls behind 12900K for around 5% in Cities: Skylines. So maybe 5800X3D is a better choice for vanilla Cities: Skylines casual players and map editor enthusiasts, whose gameplay workload for the CPU is generally super light(with FPS Booster Mod). I won’t comment on the performance of 5800X3D in other games.

@@Kenny1_C8 Oh no doubt about your detailed knowledge about the differences in Cities Skylines and by those standards I would say consistant fps are better than very bumpy ones. I was actually replying to the initial post, suggesting to build a new pc with 12700k over 5800x3D because of CS performance. If CS is all you play and all you care about then fine yeah but I don't know many people who play one game only and would consider building their entire pc around it. I would personally build a PC with a cheap Intel right now because AM4 is at the end of the cycle but I personally already have an AM4 board so upgrading one last time to high end and then rocking it a couple years seems fine too. Maybe I'll wait for ryzen 7000 release in hopes to see prices drop on 5000 and decide then. Anyway thanks for highlighting CS, it's interesting how it can still be pushed with hardware, despite the outdated engine.

Thank you for this video! It's pretty difficult to find hardware benchmarks of Cities: Skylines on KZbin, so these comparisons have been very helpful. Do you think you could also compare GPUs in Cities: Skylines as well, such as the RTX 3070 vs. RX 6800 XT? I'm using an i5-12600K in my PC right now, and I'm wondering if I should go for current generation AMD or Nvidia GPU for Cities: Skylines.
@Kenny1_C8
@Kenny1_C8 2 жыл бұрын
Glad that you like this. On the GPU part, considering you already got the 12th gen Intel CPU, if you don't play the game with a 2160p monitor, I think a GTX 1080Ti or better should do the job nicely. I used a GTX 1070Ti for Cities: Skylines at a 1080p resolution with the dynamic resolution at 200% two years ago, and the GPU was still not fully utilized, bottlenecked by the R9 3900x. But talking about benchmarking GPUs, comparing RX 6800 XT and RTX 3070 under the same conditions directly in Cities: Skylines might not be feasible for me. Because at least I will have to buy one RTX 3070, which is still pricey. The previous 12700KF + RTX 3070 video was somehow a collaboration with another player. That RTX 3070 is his own property.

@@Kenny1_C8 Understandable, and thanks for the reply :) From your experience, does Cities: Skylines favor one GPU architecture over another? I know that the game does not use the GPU much at all, but I'm wondering if either Nvidia or AMD GPUs have an advantage over another in the game. I'm using a 1080P monitor right now, but I might consider switching to 1440P in the future.
@Kenny1_C8
@Kenny1_C8 2 жыл бұрын
@@richardgu1807 The difference might not be noticeable, like something <5%, between the two current architectures from AMD and Nvidia in Cities: Skylines. What I observed is a nearly linear performance gain in this game. For example, in a GPU-constrained scenario, I found the 6800 XT outperformed the 1070 Ti by a 130% improvement, which is close to the aggregated performance ratio of 100:44 between the two in the TechPowerUp GPU Database. So if you do want to upgrade and need to choose a side in the future, something other than this game, like video encoding or deep learning compatibility if you need it, should take into consideration instead.
