@@ascherluigi Thanks for asking! Fortunately the roofs in my area are built to take such weather, but the shingles and first under layer need to be replaced. I live near the edge of Tornado Alley, within easy driving range of the Rocky Mountains, so sometimes we get crazy weather.

See the USGS video "Can rock dams reverse climate change" for one example of what I'm referring to. Also see USGS "Aridland water harvesting simulation" video, and there was one spectacular video about a ranch in the USA desert Southwest that I'm trying to find, too.

I noticed that there's some gullying already appearing on the mountainside. Why not use the cut pine to create mini dams across the gullies to prevent further erosion and cause "earth sponges" to form which will increase the area's ability to retain water on the slopes during the dry seasons?
@ascherluigi2 жыл бұрын
unfortunately that doesn't help. the water seeps away anyway, limestone mountains
@WWZenaDo2 жыл бұрын
This is what I got as a translation: "In order to preserve the alpine pastures as a habitat and cultural landscape, eight volunteers actively helped to sweep the mountain pines on the alpine pastures of the Lalidersalm last weekend. Many orchid species such as the dwarf orchid or bird species such as the black grouse benefit from the island-like thinning of the mountain pine population. You can find more information about the black grouse here. On Saturday, the nature park car would have set off to the Lalidersalm Niederleger early in the morning if a certain agricultural chairman (name not disclosed for safety reasons;) hadn't once again had an "unforeseeable emergency" in the cowshed. So, a little late, in light rain and cool temperatures, we headed towards Lalider's high-layors to get to the work surfaces. After a short introduction, the volunteers, together with members of the agricultural community, started the work. Despite the unfavorable weather conditions, the branches of the mountain pines were cut and piled up. The piles of mountain pine steadily grew in height and became more by the hour. We ended up staying in the rustic "Kasahittn" with a built-in panoramic shower, where we were able to spend a fun evening with a glass or two of wine. After a quiet night and a hearty breakfast with lots of coffee, we were able to look forward to much better weather conditions on Sunday. Many a person felt the heavy mountain pine branches from the day before in the "circle". After the work was done, the agricultural community invited to a final dinner at the post office in Hinterriss, where we could end the weekend comfortably. The Karwendel Nature Park would like to thank the motivated volunteers and the farmers of the agricultural community for the busy and enjoyable weekend on the Lalidersalm!" End quote.
@ascherluigi2 жыл бұрын
the pines are only partially cut back, the nature park is there and monitors the work.
@WWZenaDo2 жыл бұрын
@@ascherluigi Yes, but I'm referring to the erosion gully showing up in your drone footage @0:06 for several seconds, in the lower center of the video. Using the cast off cut pieces of pine to create mini check dams or maybe the correct term should be swales? That might slow down or stop the erosion of the head of that gully. Limestone? Is the entire mountainside limestone, or is it layered with sandstone and shales, or partially metamorphosed into more resistant layers? Are there sinkhole collapses in the area, or are the layers tilted at such an angle as to create cave systems?

I can't get my device to translate this. What's happening here?
