I'm SFC Berry, formerly SSG Berry and was the S2 NCOIC for 2-508, 2BCT when COL Kinery was the BDE CDR. Not only did I see him down range in Iraq, but also anytime we were in the field , running on Ardennes, or just around the unit. My nickname for him was PK3 since he was Phillip Kinery the 3rd, and he laughed when I told him that. He's highly intellectual, an approachable leader, and was always motivated when I saw him. He truly got the Paratrooper and I hope he made GO so I can run into him again one day. All The Way Sir!

How do i safely remove an old built up polish to recondition? Do you semi shive the heal cap as well? What do I apple to the rest for either depth of color or protection?

Use rubbing alcohol or acetone. Don't overdo. Stop when the leather is dull and natural. Also, it helps to constantly clean your boots after each major wear, as in just brushing it down with some running clean water. Insofar as coloring, either you deepen the color with darker polish, or else you'll just have to strip and dye it.

Depending on regiment or corps Brit berets get shrunk by plunging between hot n cold water repeatedly then drying and shaping until the flap does not cover the top of the ear (it stops just at the top of the ear), Then remove plastic lining (some remove the fabric inner liner as well) and sew the flap down. Often a plastic stiffener is fitted inside the beret to support the cap badge. Great to see how our American cousins do it.
