Hi, I have fleshy lips and I can't find a single mouthpiece with a inner rim diameter bigger than 18mm, not even a 18mm, what mouthpieces should I look for?

Hello, I am trying figure out the type of mouthpiece to use for tuba. I have an average lips, currently using Arnold Jacobs mouthpiece. I am having a hard time to play in higher range on my Bb tuba. Notes F, G, A and B are extremely difficult in second octaves. Lower range, I am satisfied with. What type and size of mouthpiece would you recommend for me to use? Thank you

I'm a fan of Stock. I personally feel the change in tone as the V-based cup goes up in the high notes. Is it something I have to endure to increase efficiency? I'm curious about where Stock chose the V-shaped cup as the standard. And thank you so much for the video. Also, I'd be very grateful if I could see the cross-sectional video of the vacciano mouthpiece!! Always be healthy and happy

I am so happy and honored to see a picture of my swollen lips at 03:32 😁 By the way, I wanted to say that I finally found out a trumpet mouthpiece I can settle on thanks to you Mrs. Stork! (I am very happy with my 1.5D+, the best so far) The short lesson you gave me via Zoom a year ago (on how the muscles and tongue should be working) was very helpful as well. You are such a great teacher and a knowledgable scholar. Take care 👍

Can anyone suggest a mouthpiece with an average rim diameter which has a notably sharp interior rim i.e. sharp bite? I'm very interested in trying a mp that has a sharp rim! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This video seems to fit trumpet players. For trombone we can double on tenor or bass with the same lips but much larger inner diameter on the bass. Very little air pressure develops inside the cup and the mouthpiece should fit the type of music and acoustic properties of the instrument, also to blend with the section.

Please update these videos more frequently and systematically, so that many brass players can have access to this concept..! As a person from a country with very scarce information about brass playing (South Korea), getting to know this brand really brought ease and joy to my playing.

Wish I heard these tips earlier! I’m a horn player with thicker lips and struggled for years on similar mouthpieces as my teachers (many great horn players I observe tend to have thin lips). Moving to larger diameters has made a huge difference!

Good stuff! A good rule of thumb I learned from one of my teachers was to play as low a pedal note as comfortable. Then, choose the smallest diameter that allows you to do this while keeping the inner rim on the skin (out of the red) of both lips.

This sounds crazy but...I'm teaching myself to play (fight) the Bugle. The mouthpiece..is really small. I've a piece brass rd stock that i had laying around for a few yrs for something special to use it..and turned on my lathe to make my own mouthpiece 🤗. Ive learned a much-needed understanding of the importance of the shape of a mouthpiece. I have been trying to find the optimal size for me, as i have fleshy lips but still at a loss for the correct type for the bugle. Is there any suggestions on a good shape "V" or "C" shaped cup and length of the shaft, including...is the ID tapered, ID size..and love your video's. Thank you so very much & greatly appreciate the time you took to make this video. Facta Non Verba

Phyllis is amazing! I went up to Stork Mouthpieces in Vermont last year for a "Dr. Mouthpiece" consultation. To put it simply, the results for me were absolutely life changing. She is a true expert in her field, and these mouthpieces are superb. I highly, highly recommend. I am eternally indebted and grateful for the magic you worked that day Phyllis. Thank you. -Drew

Hi Kate. Yes, it would seem that this video might have been meant for you. Chances are that you set up into the inner red of your lips which causes all kinds of problems. Please don't hesitate to give us a call. We'd be happy to talk things over with you! You can find our contact info at the web site here: storkcustom.com/contact-us/
