Hello Xander, You're absolutely right to feel angry about abuse. It's evil and must be condemned. But the existence of such wrongdoing doesn't disprove God; in fact, it points to Him! Without God, how do we explain why we call actions like this 'evil' or demand justice at all? Moral outrage assumes a standard of right and wrong that can't come from blind chance or human opinion. The problem isn't faith, it's when people violate it. True Christianity calls for justice and accountability, not cover-ups. Jesus Himself said, 'It would be better for them to have a millstone hung around their neck than to harm a child' (Luke 17:2). What happened in those cases is a betrayal of everything Jesus stood for, and those responsible should be held accountable. But consider this: calling these acts ‘evil’ assumes there’s an ultimate standard of right and wrong. Without God, where does that standard come from? If life is just random chance, concepts like justice or morality lose their foundation. It’s precisely because God exists that we can say some things are absolutely wrong. The issue isn’t religion itself, it’s when people distort it for power.

@ you said a lot of nice words but I’m sorry they can’t ever convince me. If god exists (I highly doubt it but for the sake of argument) the. He is either not all power or not all good. About 25k people starve to death on earth everyday. Half that number are children when your book claims god can make bread rain from the sky and his son can multiply bread and fish to feed the masses. If you believe that starving 10k plus kids to death when you have the power to stop is it the work of a god worth worshipping then we fundamentally disagree about the idea of morality. Best case scenario he’s a megalomaniacal dictator who demands worship he hasn’t earned and worst case (for you atleast) is he doesn’t exist at all. I’m sure you think you can disprove this with some Bible verse but let’s be honest. Neither of us will ever convince the other they’re wrong.

I respect you for asking these questions, but please consider this: If God eliminated all suffering instantly, He’d also have to eliminate all causes of suffering, including the choices humanity makes. Most of the world’s starvation happens because of corruption, greed, and war, things that stem from human free will. God gave us freedom because love can’t exist without it, but freedom also means the ability to choose wrong. That’s not an easy answer, but it’s a reason why He allows it for now. What’s unique about the Christian God is that He doesn’t stay distant from suffering. Jesus entered it, lived it, and died on a cross to defeat it. That’s not a ‘megalomaniac’-that’s love. God promises that suffering will one day end, but in the meantime, He calls us to be His hands and feet in fighting injustice and helping those in need. I don’t expect one reply to change your mind, but I hope it gives you something to think about. If we feel that starving kids is unacceptable (and it absolutely is), maybe that’s a sign we’re made in the image of a God who values justice and compassion. The brokenness of this world points us to our need for Him.
