Great talk. Porcelainberry can get so thick you can swing like Tarzan with it. It's believed to be a major annoyance in the Wissahickon watershed of Philly.

Curious what if any studies done /doing in west. In So Cal. mostly see racoons and rabbit. THere also rats, mice... Have read that Fence (blue bellies) lizards can un disease a tick ! Usually see spotted ticks around. Ticks the do wave their arms as get closer, had thought were attracted to heat but maybe as you say, its the motion. Mom used to drage us walking in nearby hills and then every so often would say "tick check" and we'd ck ourselves, person in front and behind us. I wore ripstop lightwt nylon pants 1 time (too hot) and the ticks slipped off. We used white clay (or DE ) to track collect in yard. Is there tick testing in western states.
