There's a lot of overlooked non-benders. One is Asami. People tend to forget the crazy sh*t she pulls off, but also People like the lieutenant, Zaheer. Ty Lee is one hell of an overrated non-bender. She has the huge advantage of avatar being a kids show. If it wasn't a kid's show someone like Mai or Piandao are way more dangerous. Mai is super overlooked. She hits deadly blows faster than any other character. Anyone who fights her suddendly gets either crazy dodge/blocking skills and Mai only ever pins people against walls (with some insane accuracy). Meanwhile she is show to kick adults off their feet with knives alone. If Mai actually was allowed to get headshots, she'd be an unfunny amount of overpowered. The only reason she's seen as weak is the plot armor of everyone around her. The same goes for combustion man and P'li. One of the strongest benders, rated as mid because they can't actually kill anyone.

Imagine if they made an au comic where after book 3, Azula somehow loses her body and her spirit is trapped in the spirit world and she can’t crossover to living world. She learns from Wan Shi Tong she would need another human body to take over and they way to do that is for another human’s spirit to enter the spirit world who hasn’t lost their body. Aang teaches Ty Lee to meditate into the spirit world. When Azula sees Ty Lee in the spirit world she touches her spirit and then takes over her body. Azula returns to the living world in Ty Lee’s body while Ty Lee is sent to the fog of lost souls. Now if anyone is wondering about the body possession part in this I’ll explain. It is similar to how Noah took over Mokuba’s from the virtual world saga from Yugioh duel monsters where if any of you seen it showed Noah touching Mokuba just before escaping to the real world in Mokuba’s body. That episode was called so close yet so far. Now after Azula returns to the living in Ty Lee’s body, she wakes up, gets up on her new feet and looks at Ty Lee’s hands. She then makes a sinister smile. She would then say “ I’m free finally I’m free. After all this time I’m finally back in the living world with a new body.” She make an evil laugh and says “Thanks Ty Lee I owe you my life. Hahaha“ Azula(now in Ty Lee’s body) tries to find a way to restore her fire bending abilities.
