Nowadays this could be seen as an analog horror documentary, thing is this was 100% real.

what a nightmare yet they are still encouraging tourists on cruises to go there and keeping very quiet about it. I certainly won't go on these Norwegian cruises now. even if it unlikely. one could be gone r3eally quickly

I read about this phenomenon, which the magazine called fluidization, in Scientific American in the 1970s. Back when SciAm was still worth opening.

There's a reason my girlfriend told me to stop showing her things "that are not there but still want to kill you". I think most of us think about landslides as hilly or mountainous events. But this look like a nice piece of land with no danger and yet still it can kill you. Mother nature is amazing :D

CO2 is nothing more than a global tax pushed by institutions like The WEF, WHO, UN, CFA… taking money from the surfs and redistributing it to the evil ungodly global elites.

I re-watch this film regularly because I enjoy the creepy, foreboding music during the active slide portion, particularly starting at 8:27 when the second “large, flake-type slide” occurs.

Norway is just plagued by that clay. It seems to be everywhere, needs little slope to flow, and can start moving at the slightest disturbance.

That creepy music goes well with the scenes and is how we rolled back in the 70s! Love it!

Someone please say who did the soundtrack!. It is so redolent of the times. It sounds a great deal like Throbbing Gristle. I love that it was selected by the people who put together this academic (ie not commercial) film. Everything about the film is great 1. the models and drawn on photos used to illustrate the events. I've grown weary of superficially flashy but not helpful computer graphics. 2. that classic British narrator, almost has that late night Open University timbre. 3. the straightforward lab demonstrations, and no one nest to the technician having to do straight to camera expressions while bobbing their head (standardly filmed weeks later) 4. no "presenters" who re-state, badly, what the knowledgeable people have already said. 5. the music 6. the post event events: especially the fellow in shorts, hardhat & little else, and the two cats in the field. Clips of all three together could be lethal.

Soundtrack is David Francis - Nordic Mood (b) 'As above, with windbells' 'Nordic Mood (b)' taken from the album 'Light Intimations 1' released on the label KPM 1000 LP Series.

I’ve never imagined this kind of instability in a country like Norway. I always thought the country was as solid as all the mountains and rocky sea shores I know of the country. I have been camping in the country (everywhere south of Bodø) and the ground almost never was easy to put a tent on (except for directly next to rivers and Ekeberg 😂). What a crazy and surreal threat that trying to build a new foundation for a barn results in a devastating collapse of a complete countryside.

So what has happened to this wreck? The most recent news I can find dates to 2019 where supposedly Norway was planning to entomb the submarine under rubble and sand by 2020, but then no additional news or information about whether this was ever done or not.

This made me feel like I was a kid again just watching TV, wow how things have changed ! And just in 70’s style, the guy drilling the sample has on only short shorts 🤣🤣 It’s sad one person lost their life but amazing that more didn’t ! I live in the USA and have never heard of quick clay, it is scary to think these people live on land that could turn to liquid with just the slightest disruption !
