One day i came home from the movies and stared at the walls of my small bedroom; wanted that big movie sound. Decided to position a speaker high up in each corner of the room and do 4-speaker stereo. Quad was not yet a thing. With speakers in place, added a Panasonic SA-6800X in 1973. Years later moved into Surround Sound and added a Fosgate DSM-3608.

Check the pinned comment. KZbin removed it because of a copyright claim. It's well within the content owner's rights to do this. I just wish that they'd actually make the song available on streaming services if they're going to do this.

* HELP NEEDED * I have just bought a GR-1. I also have a BK-7M. I want to be able to control the BK-7M with the GR-1. I had a GI-20 controlling the BK but it broke, so I bought the GR-1 which is working perfectly and is being detected by the BK as a new midi device, but I can't get it to control the auto accompany. I have reset both the Gr-1 and BK-7m to factory settings. What do I need to do to the GR-1 to make it work?

I would love to have heard a sample of this laser turntable playing a really really beat up LP. My mind boggles to comprehend what that would sound like; presumably very different to using a stylus.
@shodan6401Ай бұрын
I would HIGHLY recommend reaching out to either or both of two people, both with channels here on YT. One is Mend It Mark, in the U.K. The other is Paul, of Mr. Carson's Lab, in Canada. There is absolutely NOTHING so remarkable within your turntable that is beyond their ability to reverse engineer, and at a fraction of the cost.
@shodan6401Ай бұрын
I'm aware that there is a company getting around this Patent by manufacturing an Optical Stylus, or range of them, with a mandatory Preamp. I forget the name, but they are also similarly cost prohibitive, but perhaps just a bit less exorbitant.
@shodan6401Ай бұрын
I'm maybe a minute into the audio clip, and admittedly, I'm (probably like most) not familiar with the original recording. However, the first thing that immediately jumped out is the extremely good imaging separation and detail. The high frequencies, such as cymbals, probably sound as natural as produced. Very nice. However, it is both cost and dust prohibitive.

Good explanation. I'm thinking of picking up a boost pedal to augment my Boss Blues Driver but wondering whether the boost should go before the overdrive or after. Thinking it will be primarily to boost volume on solos or arpeggiated sections

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the ELP. I really enjoyed the rips from Vinyl. I forgot that these were not CD copies but music from vinyl, I have the same experience when listening to good vinyl on a standard turntable. It's so easy to forget that this was the only format people had to play music on for most of the 20th Century before digital made an impact in the 80s and 90s.

This was a great review. I think it was too positivie to be honest, but great non the less. The price isn't a small issue, it's unobtainable for anyone who doesn't have $18,000 in their pocket. The cleaning also sounds very laborous for just playing one record, and the benefits of the laser, at least for me, would nowhere near be worth it. Also, I think part of the experience of vinyl is knowing your disc is being played with a stylus, it interacting physically with the groove, and knowing that it's a physical reproduction of sound, even if it wears the record. It's trying to make Vinyl into CD in my opinion. However, CD is cheap as chips, always has consistant sound quality (when mastered properly) and if you treat them well, they don't wear. If CD type features are appealing on a turntable, then using a turntable with a stylus held by a carriage above the record from the 80's or 90's is a much better, and principally, far cheaper option. I get that I'm not the target market for this player, but it's hard to seenit ever coming out of the niché it's created for itself. However, if the money and inclination are their, then fair enough. Have at it.

Why you can hear music only from the turntable, when it does not have physical contact with the vinyl? Can anyone explan it for me?
@robfriedrich28225 ай бұрын
Quadraphonic records didn't work well, because they wanted the same playing time as known from stereo records. In the 1950's they had a stereo process, where each side of the record had two grooves and played both with two cartridges and styli. Would they have combined this with Blumlein stereo, they could have created an excellent quadraphonic format with a good channel separation. The only problem would have been, that the record runs 10 minutes only, because variable grade can not applied and the additional grrove needs space.

If dust is the problem for laser reading heads, solution is pretty simple - the same thing you have on some machines to prever dust getting inside of spindle - there is air that blows it out or inside it's literally under pressude so dust can't get in, it just goes out. But if it's possible to read vinyl by laser, then it should be also possible to writte analog sound to CD and then read it with standard CD drive with modified firmware, someone should make it.
@Bonzibud693 ай бұрын
They already did that before cd was even invented it's called laserdisc
