Pure love in the form of sound What Toots delivers here is the highest musical level you can reach. There are many others who can do a lot of other fantastic things that sound completely different and that have a completely different expression and a different energy and that can be at the SAME "highest level". But in this genre, where it's about delivering something melodic, harmonic and dynamic as a soloist on a monophonic instrument in a large complex orchestral arrangement, and doing it with a technical and musical excess ("unconscious, naturalness" is perhaps more accurate and relevant) and where it is done in a way where thought, soul, heart and instrument merge into a higher unity - then it DOES NOT get better. It can be done differently - but not better. And the gratifying thing is, that the audience UNDERSTANDS that this is what they are witnessing, and reacts with a ROAR of JOY by hearing that human love can be expressed so beautifully and directly through music, through a small bespectacled unhyped man, blowing down a metal thing that can be had for around 150 dollars

Thomas joue bien, mais quand Biréli joue à son tour, la différence est flagrante. Il est moins crispé, son jeu est plus fluide et il maîtrise infiniment mieux la guitare. Bon, c’est Bireli! Thomas se défend quand même très bien!

Toots’ command of the language of music was something to behold, to marvel at. I am so fortunate to have made records with his amazing artistry. No matter how many times I hit play, there was something new, something special in that same performance. His playing took me to places I’d never been.

I almost NEVER hear this touching song. It holds a VERY special meaning to me, as it was playing on the television in the background as I was excitedly making my memorable Homecoming date with the divine Ms. Owens of Nova High School, November of 1968, fresh as ever in my mind 55 years on. "If you could only see me through the eyes of love"--that quintessential yearning that lays within us, waiting to be awoken by a look, a smile, a word, a way of walking, a voice, a quality of life we admire and recognize in a simpatico person . . .My childhood friend Jaco Pastorius loved working with Toots, and it doesn't take long to realize just WHY!
