All volleys were so tightened up, was she paralysed? No aggression and pace/precision in it. WTA Tour🎉

Eso tenia Clijsters en su mejor momento, la mejor condición fisica del circuito y excelentes ángulos, nada que ver con la condición fisica de su regreso al circuito después de varios años.

From 5-3 down Maria had two match points. Maria didn’t play badly but she forgot to place the ball. She went into return mode instead of making placements. This allowed Kim to dictate the points. Kim really hung in there.
@lenwelch2195
@lenwelch2195 5 күн бұрын
I think of Kim as similar to Chris Evert in that she can get blown out in the opening set yet hang in there, refusing to make unforced errors and win in the end by playing consistently. An Evert with more power. Kim doesn’t have the versatility and mental strength of an Evert , no one does but was capable of winning any match against any player.

Sharapova's reaction at 7:54, when do you ever see that? She got extremely tight and choked the match here... She probably couldn't believe she was in a 1000 final and about to beat Clijsters with a routine scoreline and started to get nervous.

There are few highlights where she is not grunting and its a joy to watch. Just pure bashing the ball from her racquet. Sharapovas game without grunting was joy to watch.

Clijsters doing what she does best, outlasting her opponents. I admit, I’d never seen this match before, so at the beginning watching Maria’s performance, consistently serving over 110 mph, and holding serve with relative ease, I thought she’d win this match. But Kim being Kim, hung in there, allowed Maria to self destruct and in the end, wore Maria down.

she was serving like that across much of career. people over-dramatise an apparent deterioration in her serve. in this period, Michael Joyce worked on simplifying the serve and taking out the glitches that had always been present in the early years til the later 2000s. like Henin, her team /coach kept changing the serve to maximise efficiency. the problem with this is that you can have excellent results but the stroke stops feeling ‘part of you’ because it is always being altered.

As much as Serena hated losing, I think she hated losing to Maria more than any other opponent. After Maria beat her at Wimbledon and the YEC in 2004, and everyone pundit was hailing Maria as the new “it” girl, that lit a fire in Serena and she was determined to never lose to her again!! The 2007 AO where she beat her like 2&1 was especially a Serena beat down of epic proportions!!! 🤣🤣🤣

This British guy and Mary Carillo were the biggest Sharapova suck ups ever. Williams owned her and lived rent free in her head. And, then did the ultimate Queen of Comebacks move and SNATCHED the third set at love games. Bad to the bone, Serena.
