1:44 It's a llama - they have longer ears than alpacas. Alpacas are also more "fluffy": they tend to have a thick, wooly coat of fur which makes them look a bit like sheep. Llama fur is more "shaggy".

I disagree if you need to go on a trip in the winter, a 40L pack like the farpoint 40, is just too small to bring enough winter clothing. The farpoint 40L was too small for my long trip in Asia, there just isn't enough room and I regret bringing that, that is why I'm going large for my next trips, because if you can roll it who cares, the more the better. Putting it on my back will only be for scooter Taxi and long stairs, most of the time I would just carry it up stairs without putting it on my back. Since I do use scooter Taxis a lot, I need to put it on my back for those.

That is so much stuff! In my first trip I packed also like this, but on my secod trip (also Australia and India) I will bring like half of that :) Also a Fleece is missing for me

By the time you fully pack this bag with 80 litres of gear the total weight is going to be in excess of 20 kilograms / 44 pounds, which is simply too heavy for any extended wear / carry on your back. For the same budget you could get a carryon size backpack and a lightweight rolling duffel.

It depends on your purpose. I like this because in Asia, I need to sometimes ride on scooter taxi, that is really the only time I would want to put this on my back, and also when climbing stairs. The rest of the time I don't want anything on my back. I had a farpoint 40 and had bad hip pain when having to carry that on my back in Asia, that is why I want a wheeled backpack, to roll 99% of the time, but that 1% of the time I need it on my back for taxis or stairs, I have that option. If the rolling duffle allows you to carry it on your back than that would be acceptable, however, it probably won't be as good with the waist strap and ergonomics when on your back.

Great review thank you Ivy. That's exactly the type of bag I have been looking for and you are right, there are not many out there. Although it's a bit expensive considering the fact that drop off luggage sometimes gets damaged or lost. One thing I'm not agree is that you say it's huge. No it's not, a decent size of suitcase is bigger, I have been travelling for years in a relatively large suitcase and it was just enough but the problem is that they are too heavy. I used to do backpacking in Europe in the 90s with an 85L backpack, and it wasn't huge at all.

How many people know that Cotopaxi is the name of a beautiful perfectly symmetrical snow covered volcano in Ecuador? Hence, the llama/alpaca as it's symbol, although I think it would make more sense to have used the mountain. I really like this bag. Thank you for reviewing it. Had I seen it earlier I might have ordered it. But I ended up purchasing the new eBags Mother Load DLX Travel pack. It's probably a step down in quality but I liked the dimensions and it has similar features including a padded hip belt and for a 1/4th of the cost it can't be beat! So I'm excited to see how that one works out . . .

Thank you for the info. I’m going to be heading to Australia for 1 year also on a WHV but I was looking at the 100L version. Does this seem like it would be good at resisting water if for example baggage handlers left it in the rain? I’m contemplating whether to get this bag or the Patagonia Black Hole Wheeled Duffle

Hey there! I hope your travel to Australia is going/as been amazing. I'm also going for an W&H to Australia in a few months, do you think it's necessary 80L+ bag to do so? Ive seen people going with a 70L do I'm not sure if its justifiable so many litters
@liamcaldwell2796
@liamcaldwell2796 6 күн бұрын
Apologies for the slow response. I ended up going for the Patagonia Black Hole Duffel 100L which has been great. My rationale was that I thought the Osprey 80L was not quite enough and 120L was slightly too big. If I’m looking for an 80L bag in future, the Osprey Sojourn would be my choice. Osprey are such good bags.
