Clean up anything ragged, just enough so the foot will clean out. Do as little as as possible. Don't over trim the frog.

Thank you! Was struggling to understand the concept of "breakover." I'm studying veterinary science & this was simple & effective demonstration :)

We appreciate the feedback! Good luck with your studies, and reach out if we can ever be of assistance to you.

You would make Gene proud, well explained and demonstrated hoof care. Thanks fella

We are not connected to Gene (If you are referring to natural balance shoes.) We know of him and believe he is highly respected. Our COBIT is actually totally unrelated to his work.

The small COBIT is calibrated for a foot that would wear a #0 St. Croix shoe. The large is calibrated for a #3. The manual explains how to use the COBIT for a larger or smaller foot.

Would it be necessary to purchase a different tool for different sized feet or is it the same or the foot is an O or a size 4??

Basic hoof mapping which has been around for decades. The fact that the frog here is out behind the capsule shows that this foot has not been correctly trimmed in awhile. Horses can have different shaped coffin bones and you must adjust accordingly. Sad fact with shows...because you have to nail onto something...the hoof is already too long to start. 6 wks later it's distorted even more, not to mention, peripheraloading and restricted flexion...all causing damage. We have evolved from the nail and open shoes. Easycare composites have numerous options that are nail-less, resetable 5x, studable, and doNO damage to wall...AND flex. Time to evolve

Many of the horses we see have not been trimmed correctly, or at all for some time. Hoof mapping is excellent, but will not account for distortion.

Talones muy altos. Hematomas en parte frontal

The bars and heels are too high, the frog needs ground contact. Especially when shoeing, you should make sure that the back part is not too high, because in addition, an iron comes on top. That should be adjusted more

Just find the end of the bars n widest part of the foot, which should be an inch back from the True apex, measure 2 in front of the widest part to the break over point, trim him slap some PLRs on him slap em on the ass and he’ll be good to go!! 🤣

In some cases. Your method is good, but will not account for distortion.

That horse is too damn nosey🤣

Would you do that same trim and leave that much toe length with a horse that needed help with break over for a lameness issue?
@rosssmithcobit2 жыл бұрын
Yes, what you see is the method to trim a horse's foot that will remain barefoot no matter what the issues are for the horse's feet- sound or unsound. The breakover is where it should be as found by the COBIT. The COBIT finds the center of balance and in turn breakover as shown as a line on the tip of the horse's foot. The trim takes the toe back to breakover. The COBIT always finds breakover which is 2 inches in front of the center of balance. This horse has regularly scheduled trims with the COBIT and what you see is about 6/7 weeks of growth being removed with a bit of flare. If you have more questions please let us know. Thankyou for your interest. Please visit our website www.rosssmith.ca there is more detailed information about breakover and center of balance

What has created the laminitis and heat within the hoof ? Theres blood under the surface of the toe and in the heels . Those heels do not seem to be the same level as the frog .
