Hi I'm just wondering what focus modes you now use on your Sony a9 camera. Afs/afc and what focus area etc or do you do focus recompose and do you use face detect. Your photos are stunning so I thought I'd ask you now uv had the camera a while. Thankyou
@SusanshekPhoto6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your question Ben! Sorry it took me a while to see this message. For the A9 I mainly use AF-S but sometimes if its dancing shots I use AF-C so I can have it focus better with moving subjects. I dont use eye-AF or face detect modes but I do have the center focus as my focal point
@benharrisonphotography6 жыл бұрын
Susan Shek Photography thankyou Susan for your reply. Do you find it ever misses. People keep saying use afc as afs isn't as good. I've no idea why. Wat size flexible spot so you use
@SusanshekPhoto6 жыл бұрын
I use center focus and back button focus. There are so many focus points you really shouldn't be missing any focusing unless u are shooting very shallow for example f1.4 thats the only time I really have trouble if the subject is moving fast. I use AF-C for reception dancing shots and it helps. Also medium speed so I can take more shots and more options :)

Its interesting to see that you have both a Nikon and Sony camera system. During your work do you find that you are using either more? The Nikon d5 is huge compared to a9. I believe their file sizes are similar?
@SusanshekPhoto6 жыл бұрын
Yes! This video was made almost a year ago.. Wow. A lot has changed since this video. I thought I would have more time to update with weekly videos, but that never happened. Haha. So now I sold my D5, yes it was way too heavy and I felt like it was time to make a big change. It wasn't hard to make the switch. Do miss the solid D5 sometimes because I can bang it around and not feel like it would break. I have to be a lot more careful with this A9 as the mirrorless system is pretty fragile. You can change the file sizes on both cameras. :)
@Jack_Danyo6 жыл бұрын
Susan Shek Photography thank you for your reply! I recently bought a d810 and feel the difference between my old crop sensor d7200 thats why I was curious to ask. Sony mirrorless is also something I am looking to get into as considering for event photography because the weight is smaller. interesting to see that you were using both systems :). Keep up the good work!
@SusanshekPhoto6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I tried the D810 but it wasn't right for me either. You should definitely get the new A7r3 for your event photography. It's great. The colors are incredible! I've been blown away by it.

Sometimes it is not worth putting out a youtube video when you only have 170 subscribers but I am hoping you do a quick review since you have had the camera for a while now. How is it as a wedding camera. I have the A7RII and am trying to decide if I want to go with the A9 or the new A7RIII as a second camera.
@SusanshekPhoto7 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul! I didn't expect to get so busy! I dont have a lot of subscribers yet, but I did have a ton of views on the videos. I got so busy this year that I ended up shooting over 78 weddings.... so far so good! Everythings been amazing with the A9. Perfect for weddings, and the Sony A7r3 is great too, but the file sizes are too big for my liking.
@Pochi17 жыл бұрын
I went and put in my order for the a7r3 last week since it got so many good reviews. I hope that maybe they will put in a firmware update so it would support smaller raw sizes like other camera manufacturers have. I am glad you are doing great with so many weddings. I hope to get into that next year after lots more practices. Look forward to your next video.

I always have but its in my bag, i dont carry it when i shoot . Its a a garden ceremony, 3 camera set up 1 static , 2 person shooter. Im Using A9 with monopod + 24-70 GM . I said on and off not straight, it showed the overheat icon in the middle then just shut down. Scary I have to run mid ceremony to get my back up. I used it in indoors again @ the reception even longer during the speeches without any problem. try yours under the sun but its 69 high tomorrow.

Don't get me wrong i love this camera , I bought it because it the best, everything in it is great , Eye Af, the touch screen focus , the joystick with nice lowlight capabilities, new batteries, to me 20fps is just a bonus. Theres a few outdoor weddings for me but the fact it did shut down is scary. With 2 bodies and sling strap doing photos I dont think your camera is exposed under the sun directly for a period of time. Thanks

Sony nex overheated warning sent, A7s overheated warning sent, 6300 overheated warning sent, a7sii overheated warning sent. 6500 overheated warning sent, a7rii overheated warning sent, so people after all these warnings still want an A9.....if a bridge is faulty do you still cross it? wake up

Yeah the camera is pretty packed with technology so it's going to drain a bit but it's much better than previous older models, i have a A7R2 and a A7s2 as well and it's much better battery life than that but its not a Canon DSLR lol but it's getting close :) Did you want to stay light and go without the battery grip?
@SusanshekPhoto7 жыл бұрын
Michael Mystro Pierce have you heard about the overheating? I also hate how I can't use the flash in burst mode. Low light focusing is bad too 🙈
@town37 жыл бұрын
No overheating for me and no not on the A9 i haven't herd that. You can use the flash in Mechanical mode 5 fps, thats normal more so because of the flash refresh rate, most if not all flashes can't do more than 5-7 flash per second. From what i understand no company has made a flash for an electrical shutter in burst mode, i can check more on that but i'm pretty sure thats the case. I'm having great results in low lighting much better than the A7R2 and A6500. What AF setting are you using and for what type of photography, just asking?
@SusanshekPhoto7 жыл бұрын
On the A7rii I can use low shutter with flash - with a9 it's single shot only - and I shoot weddings so reception time I want to get in on the action and I can't 😭
