Roy Clark has got to be one of the most underrated musicians of all time. He can play any instrument in any style and be a virtuoso.

This vid crossed my path again and I had to watch it. There is true magic in the world and I love seeing the looks on everyone's faces light up like a kid seeing a magic trick for the first time or a Christmas morning seeing the present under the tree. Merry Christmas!

In his later years he blessed our little town in Canada with a concert. Still so amazing, even though he mentioned a few times how his fingers hurt at the time.

So, I know a lot of people regard this as a rather bad episode, and it definitely has its issues and its awkwardness (and the fact that the first mainstream interracial kiss in American TV was non-consensual on the part of both characters is rather yikes), but it is a great bit of character work for these four. Spock is somewhat loosening his self-imposed bonds of logical restraint and letting himself express remorse to Chapel because he has nothing else to offer her in the moment besides remorse and solidarity. In very little dialogue it shows Chapel's character as well. She doesn't want this because she knows Spock doesn't want it; a lesser person would just be happy they finally get intimacy from someone they like, but she values his autonomy over her own romantic desire. Kirk provides as much reassurance and comfort to a crew member under his command even when he's being forced into this situation too, he's taking responsibility to minimize both of their psychological baggage from this. And she in return is giving reassurance that this won't damage her trust in him as her captain. In terms of character drama and psychology I find it a compelling episode.

The thing that resonated with me was how caring they all were for each other, trying to support each other under duress

I really dislike this episode. Its simplistic treatment of racism is insultingly sophomoric. Having Frank Gorshin do his impressions of Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas could have saved it.
@rogertheshrubber2551Ай бұрын
It's intended to be simplistic. Star Trek is not going to engage in the tiny philosophical nuances of hate and racism. Instead, the simplistic nature of the episode allows people not versed in those nuances to see the broad strokes of the theme and see themselves (and others) in the fantasy.

There's a very sensitive quality about early acoustic pickups that this video really showcases. EQ was very primitive and the pops and high end shows. Still a great performance.

Now if only we had a modern take, point out the glaring issue of conflating racism and immigration. Ignoring the dangers of welcoming strangers with values that conflict with your own.. Simply cuz u were naive enough to think the differences were ONLY skin deep! "Its not that he's a midlandperson.. it's just that most midlandppl hold radical religious views which wouldn't be such a problem except their religion promotes cultural hatred to anyone else not of their faith and its a sin for them to tolerate our belifes!" Ah. Yes, now we see the problem of race & propaganda being used to confused the REAL underlying fundamental issue with hustle-culture
@erosgritti51713 ай бұрын
Your problem is that you do not know how to distinguish Racism from cultural differences. The human race is only one. It is not the color of the skin that makes you have a different culture. If a black person is born and lives in Italy, he is Italian. The problem you raise about religion, language and culture has nothing to do with racism. A Muslim, for example, can have any ethnicity.
