This just describes the most stereotypical forms of autism. Not the doc's fault though - the DSM is not fit for purpose

Is there an affordable way for an adult to be tested for this? I know I'm a weirdo already, I just wanna know if autism is part of the reason.

Try community clinics. Also, ask your insurance company for a list of behavioral health providers who are on your plan.

While the socializing component of ASD is quite common, another common trait of autistic people is their sensory profile. that varies depending on the persons hypo or hyper sensitivities.

Thanks I liked the video. I think im doing some of these things already. Learning to do number 3 more, do i don't get burned out. Your window was nice but very distracting for me. 😅 I kept looking out the window. Right before step 3 I saw a guy walking by on the other side of the lake. Then a little later i Ring's in the water. Must have been a fish 🐟 or a bug 🪲 😂

I don’t agree. My son was diagnosed with Autism one and he can pick up on social cues and he understands his emotions. Sometimes, when I have cried, he doesn’t understand why I’m crying and he feels awkward and you can tell that However, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have empathy and doesn’t understand that I’m sad. This is an oversimplification of autism and a disservice to those who are seeking help. This should be changed or taken down.

I don’t know why but I have a panic attack all the time especially when I have to leave family I can’t breathe and I can’t talk is this a concern and should I get any medical help or ask a pharmacy ❤
@DrGreenaway
@DrGreenaway 10 күн бұрын
You have to decide, but panic attacks are not considered a physical medical problem the same way a heart ailment would be considered. Panic attacks are generally considered harmless other than the discomfort you experience while having one. Medication can help, but eventually, you should see a therapist that specializes in using CBT to address panic attacks.

I have high functioning autism I was just diagnosed a year ago year’s prior I had a series of bad mental breakdowns and after that I just felt like my masking didn’t work no matter how hard I try and even now I cant present myself as normal and the more I do I push myself into a shutdown or a meltdown. Do you know if there is a way I can mask without it being damaging to me? I just miss being able to be included at the very least in social situations even tho I don’t enjoy it for some reason I still crave wanting friends and a social life.

some autistic people can also be overly attuned to bodylanguage and react to that instead of indirect verbal cues or social expectations.

I think those things can be masked so well from years of hiding and trying to be "normal " that it has become part of that person's perceived character.

I am autistic. I was diagnosed at 28. I spent so much time learning to communicate and speak, and how to have “normal” social interactions, that I feel like I wouldn’t “meet” the requirements for the social interactions criteria now. But I did and have been figuring stuff out from the lens of being a late diagnosis autistic person. It’s helped me coach my oldest daughter who is also autistic.

I think the fact that my mother was so emotional shut down due to her own CPTSD affected me in the area of knowing how to social connect and have healthy relationships. I do not think that means I was autistic- I was unintentionally emotionally neglected so that part of my development lagged and did not develop as it should have. But it was merely trauma based.

They'll tell you? It feels like veganism these days. I'm very likely on the spectrum myself, but after witnessing a kid around 10 earlier today screeching and slapping himself in a carpark, well, the 'tism is strong in that kid. Made me wonder if that behaviour is autism, or just lacklustre discipline, because his parents who were present did nothing. They appeared to just accept it and seemed put out, like they still have a decade of that to go, perhaps more. I wonder if they initially attempted correction, but once a diagnosis was given, they stopped trying to correct what is clearly inappropriate behaviour, and thus we risk that behaviour as an adult. As if we don't already have adults behaving that way these days.
