Yep. He was almost a hero. I used to have a Dagger Ocoee similar to that one. They are very easy to roll. If he had had a little tighter fit into that foam block style saddle, he should have been able to roll it. However, to roll a canoe, you have to have a very snug fit so that you don't slip out of it, and that foam is very slick when it gets wet. I always used thigh straps and toe blocks in my whitewater canoes. During my prime, I rarely missed a roll. Unfortunately, due to my knee replacements, I cannot even kneel in a canoe now. I k-1 now, but it's just not the same as open canoe.
