Showboat!! Dunno how many times I’ve been on that big beauty. My ww2 vet grandfather used to take me every summer back in the 80/90s. So glad we ( NC) saved the ship

The climate change crap turned me off......if the ocean is rising, then it follows the ship should be rising too....if it's stuck in the mud, then, the water should be rising up the hull... pictures I've seen shows no evidence of either happening

The Japanese Long Lance torpedo that hit the North Carolina was actually one of a spread of six fired by I-19, meant for USS Wasp. Two hit the Wasp, but a couple missed and kept going for over 5NM until one found the destroyer USS O'Brien (sunk), and the other hit North Carolina port side. The damage to the North Carolina wasn't enough to take her out of formation with Task Force 17. These new battleships were well thought out in design to allow for fast damage/flooding control for such events.

Not a very good video, just an attempt to get views with dialog and second hand file footage. Most of the photos, videos, and even the animations have little or nothing to do with BB-55. Most of the vessels shown are not even Battleships and most of those that are BB's are the USS Alabama. Do some work and at least provide footage that features the subject you are attempting to cover.

Good video but there is no man-made climate change. As for real Climate change, that has been going on since the beginning of time..Like warming and then freezing like the last ice age.

You pulled me in with “Why”….. wasted my time as far as I am concerned. Can’t fit under a bridge? Ways around that ….. too big to move? LOL. Youhavent seen big I guess. Burying her in mud was idiotic. If anything is going to keep her from floating again it would be that.

nope, way better for preservation and if they need to repair sth on the hull they can dig out said part repait and bury again without needing a Drydock which costs tens of millions of dollars (see Texas' with her current 30+mil dollar drydock)

From what I understood when I visited USS NC the mud and silt built up around her over time without anyone realizing until it was stuck, I don't think the intentionally buried it.

Original Question: Why does China want Taiwan to be part of it? I’m going to let you in on a little secret, but you promise not to tell the bigots. They don’t really understand politics and won’t accept this answer as the truth. First, I think we need to separate China into two distinct parts. The people and the Government. Why do the people want Taiwan to be part of China? That’s like asking why do North Koreans worship the Kim family. It’s because that’s all they know. Ever since birth, they’ve been taught of the divine nature of the Kim family. Just like the Chinese people. They’ve been taught that Taiwan is a part of China. I don’t blame the Chinese people for this. That’s like me telling an American that George Washington was African American. All their life they’ve only known one thing, that they hold to be true. Even if George Washington was African American, it wouldn’t matter since public perception is that he was a rich, white, landowner from Virginia. You can see now why many Chinese people think that Taiwan is a part of China. It’s all they’ve been taught. Now who is in charge of school curriculum? If you guessed the Government, you’d be spot on, which leads us to the second part. Why does the government want Taiwan to be part of China? It’s because of Geography. Just about everything in this world can be tied to geography. Just about everything. Name one historical event involving countries in the comments and I can most likely tie it back to geography. China’s government doesn’t care about the people of Taiwan. They don’t care whether or not the Taiwanese people are ethnically Chinese. They don’t care that the Taiwanese people speak the same dialect, etc. What they do care, is a sovereign nation on their doorstep. They can’t (read really really don’t want) allow Taiwan to be independent. I’ll put it in terms of a historical event that already happened. The Cuban Missile Crisis. Why do you think the U.S. government objected so strongly to the Russian’s putting missiles on Cuba. Because Cuba is goddamned close to the U.S. If China allows Taiwan to become independent, you better believe that the U.S. will use this to their advantage and use Taiwan as: a). a Naval port b). Weapons storage c). Soldiers The Chinese Government cannot allow this on their doorstep, so they claim Taiwan as their own. They don’t really care if Taiwan eventually becomes part of them or not. As long as the U.S. doesn’t get to establish a military presence on Taiwan like they did in Japan. Whoever control’s Taiwan wins the strategic war between the U.S. and China, the two global superpowers (sorry Russia!). If you don’t believe what I’ve written, then look no further than our friendly dictator in North Korea. China “supports” North Korea for one reason and one reason only. If they didn’t, the U.S. would man troops on the border between China and North Korea and that is a threat to China. By propping up a senseless dictatorship in North Korea, China establishes a buffer zone between their borders and possible enemies. It’s that simple. The same concept is in play with China and Taiwan. It’s all a political game, and unfortunately, the people of Taiwan are caught up in it. If we really wanted to get technical, then Taiwan belongs to the aborigines that came by boat tens of thousands of years ago. Why do you get to decide when “day one” is for Taiwan. You can’t base arguments off of your perceived ideas. 2). Taiwan has been part of China before, yes I agree, but today they have completely different cultures. Different food, different military, different president, different accents, etc. This divide is only going to grow in the future. At one point, the difference culturally between China and Taiwan will be like the U.S. and China. 3). I’ve already discussed that I believe the Chinese people really do believe Taiwan is a part of China, but mainly due to teachings from the government. If the U.S. government implements a policy of schools teaching students that Mexico is part of the U.S., that doesn’t make it true. Sorry.
