The Wobbly Chook Porter is the best beer I have tasted in Australia. Absolutely phenomenal. Cheers Duncan.

Good to hear Hendo's history in more detail. We have gone down a number of the same paths: 1) homebrewer: I made my first brew in May 1971 2) volunteer/apprentice: with Lake Superior Brewing Co. starting in June 1995 which had begun only 7 months earlier. I worked for 9 months for free and became the first paid brewer north of Minneapolis/St. Paul. We used repurposed dairy equipment so lots of hand scrubbing like Hendo did (I finally developed a CIP system for them after the second expansion). I was appointed head brewer in 2000 and the founder quit in 2001 with a nervous breakdown so now I was head brewer/operations manager and became part owner. We added unitanks in 2002 along with the dairy tanks and started winning awards in the World Beer Championships, 14 total. Like in the film industry we were critically acclaimed but a box office flop when it came to money. The year I won gold medal for Oktoberfest we didn't sell one drop outside of the brewery's one day Oktoberfest party at the brewery. The other partners did not know how to run a brewery business (and didn't need the money, unlike me) and ceased any efforts to promote the brand, selling off in late 2017 - same year Hendo exited the owner game. Thankfully I was picked up to develop a new brewery to operate as a brewpub instead of a production brewery, coming on line in late 2022. I had started the Rockstar Brewer program earlier that year. Although I could make award winning beer I had not had a minute of formal training in 27 years and I wanted to know how I could make better product. Hendo continues to motivate me to do the absolute best.

This is such a great story and so good to see how much help Hendo's Rockstar Academy has helped you out. Thankfully for me I get to call him a mate who lives not far, and I always enjoy catching up over a beer or two. Would love to visit your brewery one day too. Cheers! - Adsy

15g weight and label to be safe ;) Alcohol free days are super important, and I'm glad you guys discussed it, cheers. last edit - the thing that wasn't explained in this video, is this is a mobile canning company right? I would have liked to see a timelapse of them getting in and out personally. but I didn't realise it was a mobile company until the very end.

Hey there Fellas, great to watch this as I have been through the same journey also, we started a brewery 7 years ago and like you keep saying " it runs on the sniff of an oiley rag" I know exactly what you mean. I have brewed our beer since we opened and had to also work a full time job because well you do what you gotta do! Wishing the Hiker crew all the very best, hopefully I will get to visit one day, 10 points Adsy, and yes I agree with Phil, you don't wanna get to the other end of your life and wonder "what if I had tried" well done Fellas 😎👍 Cheers Mike from Forgotten 43 Brewing in NZ 🍻🍻
