In interviews Stephen has said he was very introverted and felt more comfortable hanging out in the woods than interacting with others, more comfortable listening and observing than talking. His father was the complete opposite with a bigger than life personality. There are a couple of interviews that I would highly recommend watching. One is on the channel "Live At The Print Shop" and the flow is of interviews interspersed with Stephen playing his songs, in a really nice intimate setting. The other is on the Dan Patrick show. His father was a golden gloves boxer and started training Jr when he was 6 or 7. Jr also became a golden gloves boxer. Basically, he lived in his father's shadow until his father passed away on September 15th 2018. I get the feeling that Jr never was at odds with his father. On the contrary, his father was a big hero figure to him and he loved him deeply. That being said, he still lived very much in his father's shadow. It wasn't until his father passed away that it forced Jr to become his own person and get out of his father's shadow, which had always been a comfort zone for him. One other interesting note is that Jr says that boxing was really good for him in preparing him for the stresses of life. Measuring how stressful a challenge could be on a scale of 1 to 10, getting in the ring as a youth, with a man, for 3 rounds, was an 11. Getting up on stage in front of people and playing and singing has never been more than an 8, so boxing prepared him really well for life and Jr feels like that was a big part of why Sr trained him in boxing. As to another song recommendation, unless you've already reacted to it, a beautiful companion piece to "Father's Son" - and inspired by the passing of his father - is "Grief is Only Love". God bless! Sitting on the hillside drinking a pint of IPA while the sun sets at the Tree House in Charlton, MA is as good as it gets... unless they could afford to host Stephen Wilson Jr to do an outdoor concert at the same time!

Complicated, but bear with me. Although this was played at an Ayreon concert it is actually a Star One song. Arjen Anthony Lucassen is perhaps best known for his Ayreon project, but he is the brains behind a few different projects, including Star One, The Gentle Storm and Guilt Machine. This entire concert featured a live performance of the Ayreon album "01011010", and after they had performed that, they played a few songs from different albums/ projects. "01011010" is the ASCII code for the letter "Y" which happens to be the name of the planet on which the first CD from the album is set (the album is a double CD). Brittney Hayes (better known as Brittney Slayes for obvious reasons) is the lead singer of Unleash The Archers (worth watching the full band play through of "Awakening") is here performing the song she sang on the Star One album "Revel In Time", but during this concert she took over Floor Jansen's role from the 01011010 album (as Floor couldn't attend as she was having a baby at the time). Floor's sister Irene is one of the backing vocalists. To get a better idea of the Ayreon Universe, you need to watch the video "Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down - The Source (2017)" on Arjen Anthony Lucassen's KZbin channel.
