He's just a cute/cool rat man. The racist rat stuff is so outdated I've never heard a single soul use it as an insult or comparison in the modern day. & him saying "we're delicious" is just a dad joke, not an implication that he's a rat-eating stereotype from like 150 years ago that only like 3 people even know about. This really feels like grasping at straws to be offended.

8:37 I have heard from older people around me that men would avoid putting a earring in the left ear only because it was gay. Maybe it was a signal that was discovered after a while or just a weird superstition and/or thought process. I couldn't know since I also wasn't alive at the time to confirm.

5:34 not trying to be “that guy” but each member of the gang, along with Korra’s gang are meant to be interpreted as Asian with the exception of Sokka, Katara and Korra as the water tribe is based on native Alaskan/Inuit culture. Otherwise this is a really great video, I am genuinely surprised that other people haven’t/aren’t talking about this.

I think you can also add like, lego monkie kid to the list of garbage created by white people. As a Chinese person I hate that show deeply for a lot of reasons Animation? Cool yeah. Everything else like going from the names to the changes in culturally significant characters and story portrayals is not good This is probably why I prefer not viewing cartoons like atla and tmnt as Asian rep either, just a miserable time if we have to view these as rep

I enjoy Donnie. I do act a bit like him and his mystic Tech is something I find interesting. He is basically given the ability to create anything he can imagine with no limits to this power. With someone like Donnie, it means he has a ton of potential.

Currently having autistic overwhelm in a very new and very neurotypical environment Came back to this comfort video to help me calm down while I rock with my Shadow the Hedgehog off brand squishmallow Sometimes I feel like I couldn't be actually autistic if I can understand and reciprocate certain social stuff and deal with some stuff better than other autistic people I've met, but then I have moments like this that line up with my autism diagnosis Which, I still don't understand how we can diagnose autism without quite understanding what exactly that even means

You said at one point that any fan would tell you that this Leo is gay, and I wanted to chime in with a dissenting voice, for the variety. My boyfriend and I loved the show, and neither of us picked up on Leo being gay at all - he seemed to us to be a regular guy not hung up on stuff. He seemed like a regular guy comfy with his feelings. He seemed like Ben Schwartz, who only seems gay to people who need men to fit into straight men boxes. Hypno and Warren absolutely, but no, everyone does not think Leo is gay. I didn’t and don’t see it. He’s just Ben Schwartz.

2003, 2007 and surprisingly 2012 are the definitive tmnt iterations in animated form. If we want "something fresh" do Last Ronin. No more of this juvenile ish that is this movie. The turtles arent distinct, and it overall is just childish tone puts me off. Im good on this.

I have a very odd praise for this movie and that is that there were some girl characters not lots but they were present and they weren't all love interests or sexualized yk. in 2012 tmnt all girls were love interests and meant to be hot. Karias snake from for example all thought a mutant she still looked like and not very scary while the male mutants got to look more scary, but mm lets the girl mutants look non seggs and kinda gross which is really refresing.

i wonder if this covert queerness is part of why older tmnt fans dislike rise. not everyone is accepting of queerness, and it follows the slew of similar 'hatred for remakes' that happened in part because they were considered 'woke' in their redesigns. the hatred for she-ra eerily mirrors the hatred for rise from the rest of the tmnt fandom. maybe they were clocking something and got mad, but couldn't point to anything in specific, so they just say the show is bad despite how objectively amazing the animation is.

I love Donnie because I feel like I am just like him. I think im autistic and he's just such a comfort and such a portrait that autistic people *can* still act "normal" and we are still human. We all act different and he's such a portrait of that<333

I’m somewhat familiar with how autism works. I don’t have it myself, but one of my friends is autistic. And I pray that saying this doesn’t offend or annoy anyone (I’m mainly apologising because I HATE saying stuff that people may take offence at), but catching and understanding the quirks of his autism such as his own monotone voice and lack of showing affection was fascinating to me. And I actually got excited when I caught those same quirks in Donnie, since it immediately made me see my friend. It helps that he’s pretty damn intelligent as well. We both love Rise, and we actually both feel closer in our friendship since we’ve began seeing parts of the Rise cast in each other. Like I said, he reminds me so much of Donnie so much that I began calling him Donnie as an inside joke between the two of us. But it surprised me when he began calling me Raph because he sees me as such a protective friend who’s the big guy and tries to be the “dad” of our friend group by trying to make sure they don’t end up hurting themselves by doing something stupid. As well as liking to smash and break stuff 😅

I love Rise Donnie so much- he's consistently the most relatable and entertaining character in the show (for me at least). Hell, a lot of the autistic traits Donnie portrays are things that I didn't even realize were specifically autistic because I have those traits too, so it doesn't immediately register as specifically an autistic thing to me.

Rise Donnie is absolutely my favorite Donnie and I don’t know that I’ll ever find a future Donnie at his level of such impeccable and insurmountably enjoyable character design. Discovering Donnie’s autism diagnosis as I watched the show, because it was beautifully and respectfully visible in the traits he displayed, is a TMNT experience I now cherish. To me, Donnie became more vibrant in Rise because of his autism and whether Rise viewers loved or hated the decision Rise made, I’m thrilled that Donnie was able to be one of the many brave contributions the Rise team gave to the series, TMNT universe, and to us as viewers with this show. 💜💜 Rise is amazing in so many ways, and Donnie’s contribution to autism in the media is something the Rise team, and all of us, should be proud of. #SaveROTTMNT, #UnpauseROTTMNT, #ROTTMNTSeason3, #SaveRiseoftheTeenageMutantNinjaTurtles

This is a wonderful analysis and I love your take away the end where "Leo is just allowed to be." I'm a really big fan of the mindset that fiction is allowed to be subtle in order for us to make our own interpretations, and I think you do a really good job explaining that! :) Awesome video 👍👍
