In the past, I found it difficult to appreciate the little things. If I am honest, I don't fully know what it means to do that. How am I supposed to feel? How does it help me with my next move? My mind is constantly racing with next tasks, career strategies or family related needs. I don't really know how to slow down, but I'm trying. What I do know, is the fast paced life race I was running isn't sustainable. Mentally, physically, emotionally...all the allys. 💞

After having kids, the mortality thing was all consuming. I was constantly in mourning for their childhood passing by too quickly. Now that they are teenagers I understand that all the years together are just as wonderful as when they were little. My dad used to tell me that once they grow up I’ll be ready for them to leave the house, but I couldn’t fathom it. Now I get it, and can envision a life where they are not in it daily and I can spread my wings again. I’m not sure this is a midlife crisis as I’ve felt this mortality thing for 17 years since my first child was born. My midlife crisis is now that they are almost grown can I be happy in my current reality. Thanks for the video…new sub. 😊
@TrekHerWilson6 ай бұрын
What a great perspective of love over time for your kids. Thanks for sharing. So there is hope for me yet! 😊 I will get there someday. I also feel an insurmountable sense of futileness in that, even if I were to spend 100% of my time with my children, it won't be enough. In Switzerland, it isn't unheard of that the kids stay in the family home well into their 20's which is a strange thought for me being a Gen Xer having grown up in the US. I am not opposed to the idea at the moment...we will see when they're 25 and still living at home. 🤣 As for empty nester, I have no experience there but I started the book called, "Design Your Life by Bill Burnett & Dave Evans." amzn.to/3Y6gmvH It purports to be a life-changing guide that uses design principles to create a meaningful, fulfilling life...for whatever stage of life you are in. May be helpful for you? Keep me posted on how you manage your empty nesting stage. Thank you for the sub. 💕

Contemplating our mortality, not obsessing, is healthy. I believe the western culture sets us up for unrealistic expectations.

Yes! Fully agree. Where is the line between contemplating and obsessing? What kind of thoughts are contemplative vs. unproductive? These are mostly rhetorical questions. Care to elaborate on the Western culture comment? We are in agreement, I am sure.

it is courageous that you shared your honest feeling with your name and face on the youtube. i'm at similar age, i've been trough something similar, but have not had any particular conversation about this with anybody. (briefly, superficially with my friend, or close colleagues, but not to dig too deep to get emotional). it is beautiful you stay true to yourself , give me/others a chance to think and reflect. you shoot this video in the fresh green woods, which is also lovely. I will check your next one!

Thank you for very much for sharing. Sometimes we can overanalyze our pain and dismiss it as something that will go away soon, or that it's not necessary to get too emotional about. I'm here to tell you, this is not a sustainable solution. Acknowledging your thoughts and emotions is not a sign of weakness. It's a green flag of strength and as you so kindly put it, courage. I hear you though, if I didn't have children (someone to get better for), these emotions would never have seen the light of day and I would have suffered needlessly to the end. I have another 47 years...I want to be clear eyed and true of heart for the better half of my life. You can too. Thank you again for your kind words and your courage to reach out. I will post another video tomorrow sharing the feelings that led up to the realization of my midlife crisis. I hope that will help you. I will text here when it is posted so you don't miss it. I think it will provide a bit more for you to reflect on. Take care and tomorrow is a new day full of new opportunities.

I just turned 40 couple weeks ago I also struggle with a sense of purpose which I also feel silly about at the same time. What I've come up with is 1 - We're here for a good time not a long time. (This I believe more than anything) 2 - Why NOT, for me you can have these 2 words for anything and everything (See friends/family, holiday, try something new, a trip literality anything) and it comes down to why not unless it break the bank or kill you take the leap. 3 - Be a good person, an obvious one because you never know what kind of day someone else is having. I believe on our death bed we won't be remembering that TV show we watched back in 2007 or all those hours you put into work (which is fantastic btw my wife does something similar in UK working in microbiology lab) I personally believe its about the experiences along the way.
@TrekHerWilson6 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing. I hear you about feeling silly. I suppose putting it in context for me as being a milestone (one that I am thankful to have reached), helps with the negative self talk for me. I love your outlook - here for a good time, not a long time. Once I read that outloud, I feel immediate despair about not being there for my kids one day. Silly? Perhaps. Real? Very at the moment. I will get there someday. Some very salient points, thank you. As for the last sentences...experiences along the way. I fully and wholeheartedly have thrown myself into this at the moment and for me, the outdoors is my experiences I want to take it. Nature heals me. That's where you'll find me and my family when possible 💕. Let's keep the conversation going. I hope you continue to have a positive perspective on your feelings and coping mechanisms. Come back for more updates and reflections. Here's my recent update video. Happy to hear more of your perspective. Like, why am I so happy about it right now? Maybe it's temporary. I love all your videos, but this one is by far my favorite. This one resonated so much with me as I have been feeling the exact same way for about the last 4 years. You talked about that switch and I understand 100%. There is something deep down whether it’s biological or environmental, you know that it’s no longer working for you and that’s when you have to have to make the decision to make that change. And growing up in North Dakota, like you, does something to you. Whether it makes you a tough person or a person who can get through a lot without much complaining. I would love to see more videos like this from you as well as the outdoor ones with the kiddos. I have been struggling with this idea too. What is my purpose? Why am I here? Am I supposed to live the rest of my life doing something I’m not really loving that much anymore. So yes, midlife crisis is a milestone and how you management it will set the stage for the second part of your life. And just wait Missy for menopause hold on to your britches for that. :)❤❤❤
@TrekHerWilson6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for opening up here. I think it's very important to talk about these things. We are not alone and despite how I felt most of my life, I am not crazy! Realization and acknowledgement is the first step to healing. The best way out is always through. Trust that on the other side is a happier, more purposeful, wiser you and she is beautiful! Some may disagree with me, but I find comfort in knowledge...that this is biological (genetic, chemical, or otherwise) and I'm thankful for the research and meticulous observations of the experts. I feel proud to have hit this human milestone and now it's a matter of doing the work and searching deep to find purpose. I recognize that I can't do it alone. I need people like you to be a sounding board, I need my physicians and therapists to guide me and make sure I'm continuing to be healthy in the process. There is hope and we can manage it! As for menopause...I don't have hope for me there. 🤣🤣 Thanks, and I see you. Keep me updated on your healing journey and your new found purpose. It is never too late to be happy. Take your time to find your happy, the joy is in the journey. 💕💕
