It's certainly the case that we made progress, but that progress also entails many dangers and it has generated many new problems. We have both progressed and regressed. Granted, technology will not save us, but there have been many positive developments associated with it. In this respect I fall somewhere between Pinker and Hedges. One main problem is that technological advances are severely disproportionate to the stage of our moral and spiritual development. This technological progress and rampant selfishness are a toxic mix.
