Not the best advice! I used your technique and damage my auger box. Bad advice. Another video showed using a torch to burn though though tube was non destructive. Live and learn.

lol ... i was smoking through about 50 pork butts for my daughter's wedding. Had it full and it never dawned on me to think about all the grease drippings. Lit one helluva grease fire. Caught it early and managed to save everything.

And if you keep a pan underneath it with some water, you get a lot of great au jus and if you skim off the rendered fat, you have some great tasting Tallow. This was one of the juiciest briskets I ever did.
@tanasebrle9052
@tanasebrle9052 29 күн бұрын
I don't trim my briskets anymore. My line of thinking... "I paid for all that, I want it all to be used." The fat is gonna render down into the meat, including that hard deckle, and keep the meat even juicier. When I first started smoking meats I was along the competition line of thinking.... too much work, in my opinion. I cook for my family and myself.

I think I raised the temperature a bit high at the end to get the skin crispy, the rest of the pig was very moist and tender. The smoker held the temperature perfectly wherever I set it to. The convection fan also helps hold a stable temperature throughout the grill.

Mine is stuck pretty good. My grill was knocked over during a storm while I was out of state and came back to a jammed auger. I removed the box and slammed it like you did, which helped a little getting some of the pellets out, but I ended up smashing the end where the igniter is and my auger is still jammed up in there pretty good. Traeger doesn't sell the box assembly either, so I might be shit out of luck, unfortunately. Thanks for the video though. It gave me a little hope.

A year ago I found a nice Oklahoma Joe's pellet grill at a scrap yard when I was hauling in some left over metal from a building we built. I loaded it up and brought home. It had stuck auger and it must have had a burn back that killed the motor and controller. If fixed it using parts from Smoke Daddy, high torque motor, new bushing and a PID controller. Since then it has been a fun and trouble free cooker that works great.

is the sportsman sub-programing still PID?
@DennisCorrea
@DennisCorrea 3 ай бұрын
Yes, it is. PID but there is a default that puts a few pellets in the burn pot every so often to ensure that there's a fire. So on a hot day you'll have to have a lot of airflow to keep it in those lower temperatures.

I literally have one just as bad. Bought the grill for 60. It blew the fuse and blew up the auger motor when I fixed it. I figured out why cause I got the grill without the pellet cover. What happens is the rain swells the pellets in the grill and then it becomes stuck. The pellet cover is important and I never knew it until it rained and it swelled the pellets

Using the aluminum pan under the meat with water also makes a good broth for basting. For long cooks I put about 1" of water in the pan.

@@Smokedaddyinc dang that’s a bummer, the traeger controller is terrible, was hoping to upgrade. Even though your controller may not be WiFi enabled I still may consider it. I don’t use the WiFi feature much anyways and since the temperature probe isn’t the best I use a Bluetooth probe that’s more accurate. Thanks for the quick response

@@johnnymac5253 That's what we have resorted to as well. We use a Tappecue system to monitor during the cooks since for the most part you are cooking at one temperature for most of the cook.
