Letting people rent your plane would be tough for many. Especially, letting students bounce your plane off the runway over and over.

Very true. Clubs can sometimes be a better option as they tend to be less of a factory environment.

Ive owned an early model Comanche 250 and a Bonanza S-35. The comanche was great, but overall I like the Bonanza much better. Comanche positives: Very sporty handling, great climb rate, high useful load and nearly impossible to load out of balance. Comanche drawbacks: Bad ride in turbulence, difficult to land smoothly, low reliability (at least in mine), higher fuel consumption with carburetor. Bonanza positives: Big comfy cabin, quieter in flight, good ventilation, easy to land, great fuel economy, very reliable. Bonanza drawbacks: Lower useful load and easy to load out of balance, sluggish but stable handling, expensive parts.

Who takes care of the 100 hour inspection now that its being operated by a flight school?
@Planeviz3 ай бұрын
The owner pays, the flight school usually does the inspection as part of the agrreement (often at a discount on the rate).

Years ago - 1968 - I flew home to DC in a Mooney 20A from Santiago, Chile; including a stop at PBI to see my folks and extensive flights in Mexico, that was about a 7,800 mile trip. I had purchased the Mooney in Chile and had flown it extensively before starting this trip-of-a-lifetime. The only glitch on the trip was I violated the "stay-on-the ground-after-noon-in-the-tropics maxim which after lightning took out the RDF station to which I was flying and hail began drumming my plane, I dropped gear, flashed my lights, and aided by a truck responding to my "message" by turning perpendicular to traffic, landed on the Pan American Highway at Jipihoppa, Ecuador. But the Mooney does not read "tight" inside, is fast and gave me great legs on 52 gallons of fuel. And flying it was akin to my Carrerra 911... sweet and sure...I miss it big time.

As of Feb 2024 prices have come down. I see G2s for sale in the 250-300k range and G3 turbos for 350k. Seems the market has cooled a bit and release of the G7 may have helped.

The Super Viking deserves a place on this list. One could argue that the Bellanca is superior to all of the aircraft you mentioned, including price. What about the Meyers 200? The only airframe in general aviation with no AD's!

The Comanche is a great airplane, I have flown the 180, 250, 260 and owned a 400. The Comanche is as rugged as an airplane can be found anywhere. I flew my 400 from Lake City FL to El Monte CA with one fuel stop in San Angelo Texas. El Monte is in the Los Angeles area and Lake City is around 70 miles inland from the Atlantic. The 400 is practically a coast to coast with one fuel stop airplane. I love all Comanches and can’t think of anything bad to say about them.

For me the choices are easy - Comanche 250 all the way from these 4. From there in single engine late model F33 Bonanza then TBM 700 or 850

This is a clear case of dealers choice. Meaning, depending on what you value, you will pick one or the other of these fine aircraft. They are all great planes. My choice would be the Bonanza, but I would place extra emphasis on pilot knowledge, skills and judgement. These planes are just enough fast and higher skill requirement that it is easy for a low hour and low knowledge/judgement pilot to get into trouble. The other airplanes have a bit more forgiveness in them.
