The physical tag itself is the same - a flexible garment label or hard disc tag, etc. The chip can be different. For digital product passports, you can use either a standard NTAG213/ICODE SLIX chip _or_ an authentication grade NTAG424 chip. The tag is acting as an ID for the information so either type of chip will work just fine. However, for authentication or anti-counterfeit, you need to use the NTAG424 chip. The NTAG213/ICODE chips are great for identification and information, but do not provide enough anti-counterfeit protection.

Usually, yes. We can manufacture custom printed NFC labels in a large number of different ways but we typically use a polyester (PET) substrate with laminate which makes them both durable and waterproof. The important aspect is usually the adhesive and what the item is attached to. The smoother, cleaner the surface is better but we can make labels with a variety of adhesives including specialist types for particular surfaces or even foam pads for rough or uneven surfaces.

Because of the costs involved. We are finding that shipping from the UK to many European countries has become extremely expensive both in terms of shipping costs and import duties/charges. We pride ourselves on providing the best service in the business on both NFC products and software and we simply can't provide the service we want to when shipping to many European countries. The iPhone can only scan a limited number of formats natively (without an app). If it isn't one that the iPhone recognises, it doesn't tell you, it just doesn't respond. The formats are currently a weblink (URL), an email (for example, mailto:[email protected]), SMS (sms:+44002233445566), Telephone (tel:+442037732791), FaceTime, and Maps. So, adding a vCard or similar name/phone number won't work.

Not sure we agree with all your comments there but we can certainly sympathize with your frustration that the iPhone Pro series in particular struggles to scan NFC tags. What makes it more curious (frustrating) is that many iPhones, such as the 12 mini, can background scan tags extremely well - demonstrating that Apple phones _can_ work properly. Bottom line is that Apple are selling a product where the technology provided is not particularly usable or fit for purpose. Something that historically isn't very 'Apple'.

It's not easy. Getting the tag integrated into the clothing enough so that it will fail when tampered but not fail under normal flexing of the garment is difficult. We've tried a lot of options. To get a tamper tag that can then also be washed is even more difficult. There's two options. A completely custom made unit which, like the security tag in clothing stores, goes through the clothing and an attempt to remove breaks the antenna or the tamper loop. We have done this once and the costs are substantial - custom plastic housing, custom antenna design, but the concept works. If the tag can stay dry (for example, liner of a designer handbag) then we have a peel tamper tag with a very sticky adhesive back. This is strong enough to provide a good bond to fabrics and then allow for a break when an attempt is made to remove. We don't know your particular use case but the problem is going to be related to what is encoded/programmed on the tag rather than the chip itself. It's possible to encode data - for example a 'smart poster' (URL + title) - onto a tag and it'll scan fine on Android but not work at all on iPhone. For maximum reliability across both Android and iPhones, we recommend only encoding a web link / URL.

Simple question but a complicated answer. With regards the tags themselves, then essentially no. Without having the encryption keys then it's safe to say they couldn't be 'faked'. However, a lot will depend how you configure your setup. For example, assume if you scan the tag, hits a script to check if the tag is authentic and then - if good - redirects to an 'authenticated' page. That page needs to be publicly visible and therefore someone could copy that page and put a link to it directly on another tag. Someone scanning the new tag could then be directed to go straight to the 'authenticated' page - a fake authentication. Therefore, you need to design the landing page, etc, in a way to prevent that (for example ixkio.com uses a traceback system to prevent unwanted direct hits). There is also the risk of one-time authentication link copy. This is a relatively simple problem and low risk. Hi mate, i have this same question as i have just written an nfc tag for this purpose and when i went to scan it with my iphone, it wouldn't read it. I had to use a nfc app! My son on the other hand has an android and it read it with no problem.. I did use the tag and app this channel recommended, but the app get crashing when i tried to open the written nfc data so my phone could read it. Ended up using nfc for iphone

NFC cards and NFC tags work (generally) in exactly the same way. Clearly, the NFC _chip_ inside each may not be the same - but if it is, then there's not going to be any difference in the way you write/encode.

Sure - if the NFC tag has been encoded with standard NDEF data - ie, someone has encoded a web link onto it with another App or a tag supplier like Seritag has encoded the tags. On Android phones, just hold the centre of the back over the tag. On iPhone X or later, just hold the top edge over the tag. Note that if the tag hasn't been encoded, then on iPhones, nothing will happen !

After encoding I still had the issue and found this: Make sure your device is unlocked, Airplane mode is disabled, you're not using Camera, Apple Wallet, or having an active NFC session

Most of the garment tags use a simple adhesive designed to hold the tags in place to an iron-on patch or sew-on patch - which then gets applied to the garments. It's not designed to hold the tags longer term. We can make these tags with 'iron-on' adhesive as well which would allow the tags to be directly applied to garments. However, this is a little more complicated and you should discuss with us first.
