Nice rundown of some Rosés, Dean. The Studio from Miraval is definitely a departure from their flagship Rosé. The use of Cinsault, Grenache, Rolle, and Tibouren really differentiates the two Miraval offerings. The Vielle Ferme is always in my fridge, (usually purchased on sale from the LCBO) and makes for a great porch pounder or a sipper by the pool.

I had to look up Kirsch, and it says that Kirsch is a cherry-based brandy which is dry, as opposed to a cherry liqueur which is sweet. On the nose, they would probably be pretty similar! Cheers!

I bought a bottle of that Vranac after seeing your other video. It's a beast, but after decanting it for an hour or so, we really enjoyed it. Great value!!

Was lucky to try the Insignia '13 against the '16 at the winery. Both great in their own right and surprisingly more cost effective to buy in Canada. Now, at a price of $450++ brings plenty of competition to the table. Still great to try spectacular wines, Thanks and enjoy.

I think they're still cheaper from the winery directly, especially if you join the club and get 20% off, even with the duty to bring them across (although it's probably close). Either way, it's an expensive wine that is worth every penny, every vintage.

Walked into the Borba Co-Op a decade ago, most of their line-up sold for $1.50 - $2.50 Euros, quaffable and purpose built wines. Wish we had access to more and better Portuguese wines.

They're out there, it just takes a bit more work to find them. We had some spectacular wine at our 'main event' Portugal night, including one that I gave 94 points.

That's the rub, isn't it? My friends didn't enjoy those wines any more than I did, and about half went down the sink. So, was that really 'good value'?

@@deanengemoen If you are drinking wine just for the sake of drinking wine, I guess it could be considered good value. But if you are drinking wine to actually enjoy it, it's not worth it. Hence why I rarely buy really cheap wine.

Pays d'oc -- so many underrated gems among the mass-market stuff. I recently had Domaine de Cigalus white which is now owned by Gerard Bertrand. Unusual blend of chard, viognier, and sauvignon blanc. Amazing for the price.

Interesting. I generally avoid any French wine that gives the varietal on the label (unless it's from Alsace, of course) as I just assume it's mass produced for the export market. Perhaps I should re-evaluate.

Agreed. I've heard some say that Cab Franc should be BC's "signature grape", if we really need one. Not sure, but it sure shows well here.

This shows terroir. I don’t think I would pick Chinon and Okanagan CF as the same grape in a blind taste test, but I’ve had spectacular examples of both and enjoyed them very much. Interestingly, the Okanagan cab Franc that I found had the most earthy notes was the ‘17 Painted Rock.
