As a kid, we used to listen to the album My Son the Folk Singer. I can still remember the words to most of the songs. My fave has to be Sir Greenbaum’s Madrigal. One Xmas eve service the organist was playing Greensleeves and my whole family start quietly singing that song. I have the album in my iTunes music. Will always love it.

I once saw Allan Sherman on TV with Steve Allen, and they were making up songs on the spot based on whatever ideas came from the audience. Some young women gave as her topic “Eve Jackabowski.” Sherman is singing “Eve Jackabowski” over and over, muttering “What the Hell rhymes with Eve Jackabowski?” He suddenly snaps his fingers and says “Got it!” And immediately sings “Eve Jackabowski, lend me your house key, Please, I want to come in.” This man was a genius.

The thing is, I went from listening to Allan Sherman albums in my living room, to hearing my first Weird Al Yankovic song in only about three years. It took at least five more years before I felt Al was better than Allan.

Can't remember exactly how we got them - My Son The Folk Singer & My Son The Celebrity became a go to for me to occupy my time and do something fun from time to time. Back when having a turn table was a common thing.

The guy had a great voice! The piano accompanist was great, too. Wonderful timing between both of them. Thanks to Mark Cohen for sharing this song with us!

Just thought of this song because of the new couple across the street. Why? Because I’ll never forget my high school homeroom teacher used to play it in ‘68. Now I know why 😅!

OMG! I haven't heard this in eons! Funny! Funny! Funny! Back in the day this is one of his songs I tried to memorize, but could never get all the Jewish names straight. I still have his LP albums - all of them I think.

9/2023.....I remember this tune from when I was 10 in 1963. Grew up Jewish in Cleveland, Ohio. Back then, I knew all the lyrics by heart, we also had an album by Myron Cohen. Yiddish was spoken in our house, so me and my sister knew there were things our parents didn't want us to know. It is sometimes referred to as YINGLISH, a cross between English & Yiddish, and by inference we could figure out what they were saying. I still go on line, to refresh my memory of the Yiddish words. I'm not religious and I married a Christian. We don't practice any religion, however, I love picking out our Christmas tree, and decorating it.

This great parody, that was taken from the original great song "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". shows that he was a master of parodies. and how great Allen Sherman was for sure. however I could be a little biased because of my namesake.

Allen Sherman was fantastic, he did a lot of parodies from all different kinds of music genres. such children's nursery rhymes, popular songs of the time in the early sixties. even older songs from the Country of the United States. such "Glory Glory Harry Lewis". he was a master of song parodies. he had problems with his weight all of his life. which eventually lead to his death at young age. if I remember rightly just before his fiftieth birthday. when was a kid my father had his album "My Son the Celebrity" along with album's by Harry Belafonte, and Ray Conif. that was over fifty years ago.

For those of us who are younger and/or fashion-unconscious... who or what was Irving Roth? Something in the fabrics line, I gather, but my search engine keeps turning up references to someone who doesn't seem connected to this story.

Kinda makes the most famous song in the whole movie a joke out of the whole "Pay no attention to the man behind the Iron Curtain!!" the least intimidating thing said in the 2016-2020 portion of the movie, doesn't it?
