Trick is now playing on Amazon Prime in July 2024.Times have gotten much harsher than in 2013 (the time of this interview) which is why a film like Trick is even more important today. Viewing it now, it is amazing how it captures an era in NYC but remains timeless. Mr Campbell's performance still rings true. A superb actor .

In high school I dated a squirmy girl who was pretty but was socially shy. One of the things she did to "deflate" my self-confidence was to tell me that my dimples were a physical defect. I'd never been told that before, so this came as a "Say what?" moment. I think I laughed a little, but it was good to hear this comment because I realized she had no interest in me. She went on to marry one of my friends. I lost touch with both of them after that. I learned that after years of failing to conceive she finally got pregnant. Good for her.

The pressure comes from all sides when you're "the only one" in the room or at the table and diversity is not only about race, but also diversity of social, cultural, economic events and gifts or talents. I hope we all can recognize and be cognizant of the fact that none of has control over any of these diverse factors that may lead us to "the only one" status. I have been penalized and variously called names and labeled because of the way I talk and because of the "only one" status. And not by just one particular group, but by members of my own race and cultural tribe. It is exhausting and you find yourself alone...a lot, because you cannot control other's...ignorance. I just do not care anymore. I shall be alone.
