I presume once the rail baltica 1435mm line is completed, old soviet tracks will be ripped out, i guess this would free extra land for other stuff but also expansion of 1435mm network. Croatia is also building high speed line from Rijeka to Zagreb, initially limited to 160kmph but enabled for high speed 250kmph service. Like Rail Baltica it is also being delayed due to finances. The 270km line which starts in port of Rijeka and will go via Zagreb - Koprivnica to Hungarian border. The line will cost around €4.2 billion, 85% financed by the EU, the line should be completed by 2030, section between Zagreb and Hungarian border some 100km should be completed by end of 2025, section between Zagreb - Karlovac on the southern section of the route work have started but they're not set to be finished before end of 2027, 56km section is relatively easy section, as it is flat part of the line. Section between Karlovac and Rijeka, 120km section will be very difficult, the plan is to build 22km tunnel, that will connect Rijeka to a locality known as Dreznica, there are 3 tunnels on this route, 22km 14km and 9km all very complex and will take long time to finish. Section between Dreznica to Karlovac will go through very hilly terrain and will also require noumber of tunnels, viaducts and bridges,. Karlovac -- Rijeka section will cost initially around €3.6 billion, with completion data given as 2030, but very likely it'll be 2032. Once complete, the line will allow for high speed train service between Rijeka and Zagreb and onward to Hungary, but service will be limited to 160kmph speeds as higher speeds aren't financially justified at this stage, later on the speeds will go up to max 250kmph once market matures and there's a demand for a high speed service. Croatia in 2023 had only 24 million passengers, across entire network, in 1990, that figure was 57 million, so less than half of what it used be. Hope is by 2035, we could reach 1990 figures in terms of passenger traffic.

I just can't wait for all those rail projects to be completed. I live in Lodz, Poland, 5 minutes walking from a train station that was an end station right in the city centre since it had been built when Poland was partitioned. If all goes well, trains will finally be able to go through it, the whole network will be updated. I'm looking forward to getting on a train and going all the way to Finland through all the Baltic States one day ❤

Good to see that progress is being made, but still a lot of work to go with the line itself. When this project is finished they will revolutionise transport in the Baltics. By the way it's amazing to see that the construction is respected by local people. In my country all those new walls and structures would be already vandalised with graffiti and sh*t.

Current plan is to replace diesel a with partial electrification+ battery trains. Electrification of Krustpils will be coming, so then with good enough technology we could run Rēzekne/Daugavpils with some charging island in between. Probably in direction of Valga there should be electrification to Sigulda maybe. But have to see what battery trains allow in future. i doubt all network will be electrified as it would be massive investment, but with the green deal and such who knows

Level boarding in Riga central station will come with Rail Baltica, if they finish the first part of the station at least. If the station itself is delayed maybe then they will do something, but so far it does not seem they gave any plan. As per button for water, we have those on many trains all around the world, also trains are not soundproof, there will still be sounds. As per Skoda delivering 20 (20 trains are in Latvia now) instead of 32, they had to basically assemble them here due to war and not being able to use Ukraine and Belarus Rail to transport them, delays do happen in infrastructure projects, they said they will run 18 that are certified quite soon, but we will see

Don’t believe these charlatans from Vivi, they are pv, they deceived everyone so many times, constantly stole money from “modernizations”, constantly robbed staff, taking away their “bonuses” according to plan, about 25%, they also failed the project with Skoda, collecting strange devices made from old parts, so there are only few videos with real trips, they avoid to show all issues happening with these old trash. These "new" trains hum, whistle, rattle like old ruins. The interior is made terribly, everything is gray, it can’t drive normally, there aren’t enough traction drives. They promised to deliver 32 trains at the beginning of this year, only 18 were delivered, and only three were put on the line. They promised to release a new train to Jelgava on Sunday, but they deceived us again. I just threw away the ticket. They could not divide the bribes for more than ten years. And now they made this trash, in which, it seems to me, they stole about 50% of the money.
@intervrt5 ай бұрын
Estonia has bought very similar trains for an intercity line between Tallinn and Tartu, which I think is what these would be better suited to as well. I can imagine Vivi will put these to use on longer lines when the electrification goes further from Riga than the commuter train line distances that they have electrified now, but I hope they also buy proper commuter train rolling stock like the Stadler FLIRTS in Estonia, Finland and elsewhere.
@lkrnpk5 ай бұрын
What are cruicial differences of this train compared to Estonian FLIRTs aside from FLIRTs having higher % of low floor? They are still not 100% low floor trains. And these trains would be more suited for longer routes with removing some seats IMO. But of course the purchase was compromised in a way that at first it was planned not to use any EU funds to purchase them, and a lot of seats were crammed in due to high demand on commuter lines on peak hours and to show that we get cheap price per seat. And still for Riga commuter lines if passenger growth is like in Tallinn with new trains as it was, 32 of these will not be enough. So sure, in future part of these should go to more electrified sections, like the short term plan is to electrify to Krustpils at least.
@intervrt5 ай бұрын
@@lkrnpk Looks like these trains have a lot more seating than Estonia's FLIRTs and even more than Finland's (less standing room), and I believe less storage room for bikes. That leads me to believe that they're more suited for intercity routes than commuter lines. > And these trains would be more suited for longer routes with removing some seats IMO How so? People travelling longer distances tend to want to sit down more compared to commuter train passengers no?
@lkrnpk5 ай бұрын
The thing is that by there being so many seats the leg room is less and people are sitting more close packed together + there are no tables in between etc. So a good intercity train would still use better seats, some tables and maybe a bit less of seats in total, like Estonian trains I believe will have less seats than there... Also a true commuter train does not really need a huge place for bikes, like Stockholm commuter trains are packed in mornings, same as these in Riga will be at least in Riga borders, they even do not allow to board at least in Stockholm central with a bike in peak hours, there are ways how to commute with a bike by renting one at the destination for example, if everyone starts bringing bikes on commuter trains in peak hours there are even less room and more room to get dirty clothes from bike tires etc. But then again if we talk about electrified lines we also not have just commuter lines, Tukums II - Riga has express trains, which is then already more like a regional version, or Aizkraukle - Riga, so it is sort of a mix too... I agree that maybe more standing room would be better, then again some of the routes are very specific where most traffic originates at departure and leaves at arrival... Like Jelgava - Riga, most people would go all the way if not to Riga center then some districts from Jelgava, or from any of Jūrmala stops to Riga, ok it is maybe just 45 minute travel time but if they also travel on the same train then further from Jurmala to Ogre, it can already be over an hour. Not many such people there will be probably, it is kinda hard to say, even if these are commuter trains, usually passenger exchange in stations in the middle is not that great, usually they get progressively more packed towards Riga or in summers towards the sea going from Riga@@intervrt
@lkrnpk5 ай бұрын
Also the thing is since Riga central has trains going through it, commuter line can also turn into regional one pretty quickly if the same train is going Ogre - Sloka or some other diametral route and people want to travel through Riga Central, not exit there. Not sure, it is sort of a mix what we have, it is also not purely commuter lines we have, we run some express services on them as regional train sort of too@@intervrt
@intervrt5 ай бұрын
@@lkrnpk You've typed up a whole lot of text so it's hard for me to reply to it but commuter trains usually have tables too (or maybe just the ones i've ridden do). Even though some don't allow bikes onboard I think it's still more important for them to help bicycle commuting than for intercity trains to do that, right? Maybe I'm wrong, that's just what makes sense to me. And I'd assume leg room isn't something that matters in intercity trains but doesn't in commuter trains, both should have room anyway. Also, if you say over an hour, that seems to cross into intercity territory anyway so I'm not sure that's very relevant
