no fire?
@stevemijatovic17668 ай бұрын
No fire for a few reasons. Firstly there are no solid fuel fires allowed in the national park I was in and secondly, one night of this trip was scheduled to be spent above the treeline where there simply isn't anything to burn. The decision was made to make cold camp and eat cold trail food both nights. Experience has shown fire in the wild is a tricky thing. It's hard to build one big enough to truly keep you warm and if enemies are nearby it acts like a beacon and ruins your night vision.

is it possible to add links to where we can purchase some of this kit? like the blankets and tent pegs?
@captaincatastrophe51438 ай бұрын
I second this idea! Hell even a vid talking about what the things to look for in quality gear would be amazing.
@stevemijatovic17668 ай бұрын
Most of our members gear is either home made or made to order from various artists around the world. The tent pegs shown here are based on a roman example from Hedemünden. Several different replicas were trialed but all found to be too heavy to justify inclusion. These particular pegs were purchased from a German merchant named Peraperis. The blankets were part of a commission from a European weaver. If you wanted to explore something similar then the Georgian merchant Oldcraft should be able to help. Just remember to specify if you want a tight weave for really cold conditions - the key to keeping warm is to try and created a warm pocket of air around you (usually with a looser weave blanket) which is then trapped in with the heavy weave blanket in the same way a modern down jacket works. I hope this helps.

Just to point out, while the dwarven letter is beautiful, Khuzdul is a secret language to be used only among kin and thus, quite unlikely to appear in correspondence with a "Man of Rohan".
@middleearthreenactmentsoc9 ай бұрын
Many cultures in Middle-earth use the Cirth runic alphabet, which is written phonetically and as such can be used to write in virtually any language.

Great! Could you give the source for the bone cloak pin please? Is it historical? I really liked it and it would be a great project.
@stevemijatovic17669 ай бұрын
Hi Kevin glad you like it. The pin itself is a generic bone pin not based on any particular find but such pins were common male dress accessories in the early middle ages. They are quite simple to make, I have had to whittle a few wooden replacements on the trail when I have lost mine in the past.

It I guess he's not?
@stevemijatovic17669 ай бұрын
A fair point. As part of the persona creation for Eofor I had to come up with a plausible reason a man from Rohan would be out in the greater world for we know that at the time of the War of the Ring they are a very closeted people. A matter of personal honour has caused him to wander far from Rohan for many years and in that time he has picked up a few non cultural traits his countrymen would find strange.
